NEWEST DEVELOPMENT: Sharbs has graciously agreed to be a team captain which means we can now have three teams (as of now, two of 6, one of 7). My thinking was that smaller teams made more sense and would make the draft more fair (someone will have to pick last anyways, but picking 6th or 7th isn't the same as picking 9th or 10th), as well as leave a bit more room for strategy (more free agents floating around to be picked up), as opposed to having 36/40 films spread out across one team's roster. I'm going to set up the teams soon, either tonight or tomorrow. Any remaining stragglers can join up.
Just to expedite the process, start thinking about having your ballots ready so you can send them on to your team captain right after the teams get split up. Tips for newbies (I was one last year): Make sure to have awardswatch predictions handy (any major predictions site will do) just to have a baseline for all the films that should be the radar so you don't absent-mindedly forget something important, and then you can just use your gut instinct from there. Also keeping in mind that your picks will be subject to luck of the draw when we hold the draft so try to have your bases covered across big 8 and tech categories, and also that artsy indie picks typically do quite well with the critics' bodies (like Hereditary and First Reformed last year) so don't neglect 'em!

When would we need to have ballots ready by? as soon as possible basically. The ballot-writing process isn't contingent on being in a team so best-case scenario is that most folks have their ballots ready when the teams are sorted (tomorrow) so you can shoot them right to your captain. The sooner the ballots get done, the sooner teams can move on to the draft. |

And just to add on to what Tommen said, even when we have a set draft day in mind, and even if you confirm you can make the date, *still make and send in that ballot.* Not only can it be a useful guide to help you keep track, but if, God forbid, something should happen that you can’t make it, we can have it as a backup. Like Viced has said before (at least, I think it was him), life happens, and it’s better to have these things and not need them, than something happen and be SOL.

As of now we have three teams of 7 so that means even if only one more person joins up, that team would need a 32/24/24 ballot. I'd rather us have it and not need it than need it and not have it. |
