I know not that many people here care, but just thought I'd put this out here in case there are some soccer nuts here. For me personally, at least the national team USA on the women's side is worth watching. I guess my sympathies stay American for this tournament. Opening game France vs Korea. France the host nation, one of the expected favorites. They're toying with a weak looking Korea team leading 3-0 at halftime, but of course we need to see competition get tougher.

Is Bibiana Steinhaus still reffing? She's near retirement age, iirc. Because that's all I want to see, whatever she's on.
I'm a ref. Not a very good one, I'm afraid. But other people watch these games for the teams. I watch them for the officials.

The only international sporting event in which I root for the U.S. tbh ... will try to make it a point to watch as many of their games as I can.

Got into their World Cup run last time and will watch again because I only like international sports where America is the best. Alex Morgan is also one of the hottest women around.

Didn't you say Alicia Vikander was your wife one time? I was operating under the assumption that you were Michael Fassbender all this time. Starting to think I shouldn't take what you post too seriously.

So is Vikander apparently though 🤔.

Expecting the girls to do as well as the boys, plus we are at home. A very possible quarter-final against the USA should be fire.

Shouldn't they be in the kitchen. But really women's football is so bad. The goalkeepers make Loris Karius look like Peter Schmeichel.

Bonansea 😍!!! She's one of Juventus forwards after all 😁. Italy showed a better quality than Australia. A deserved victory.

Great performance by Italy. First game that was actually competitive and told us some things about this tournament. Italy looks like they're gonna exceed people's expectations. Their front line will give them a chance. Australia back line didn't do anything about those 3 in the front - they were creating lots of scoring chances. Not to mention the back line was having trouble - getting picked, one goal scored off of not being able to hold the ball.
I don't even think Italy was passing great - they were just chewing up the midfield and Australia was lagging. Tournament should get fun next week. Can't wait!

YES. MALLORY IS IN. SHE'S THE COOLEST.
I was anticipating her to be the last sub... And my prayer was answered. The only thing worth watching in this torturous game.

An exercise in humility is needed. the US didn't need to put on that onslaught. They essentially got their fans wearing red white and blue excited for doing really nothing than beating a team not even remotely decent. Teams like Thailand should not be allowed to compete here otherwise its just not really fair.
At least Mallory gave some sparks of looking like the future of this team.

I don't think the third Australian goal is regular. The offside is when the ball is kicked towards your player, and that is the moment when you should stop the game.

Jamaica Italy 0-5. Three goals by Girelli and two by Galli 😁. Italy has the chance of ending the group at the first place by tying with Brazil. At worst we'll end second, so we're surely qualified.

England is definitely a contender to win this tournament. They're really good. They collectively have a strong group. Reminds me of the U.S.
Argentina makes you play ugly. That one goal England got was actually hard earned given the way Argentina plays..... England didn't have to do anything on defense, their goalie touched the ball a total of 0 times.
I feel like we'll know enough about this group with the England-Japan game. I feel like that will be more of a normal game that will tell us more. Playing Argentina simply doesn't tell you a lot because of the way they play.

Group C was the most balanced it seems... 3 teams with 6 points. The penalty for Brazil over Italy was generous to say the least though.

I've been thinking about this after all the discussion it prompted and they've really got to to do something about it next time. That was just embarrassing. Whether it means contracting the field a bit so you only have solid teams or not showing as much preference to region and just letting in the best 24 teams in. I'm sure a team that narrowly missed qualifying from Europe or Latin America would have been miles better than Thailand. I know the US team is great, but if you lose to anyone 13 nil you have no business being in the World Cup.

I know the US team is great, but if you lose to anyone 13 nil you have no business being in the World Cup. Agreed. I want my US girls to do well, but not unless it's earned. Sure, it's only one game and it won't be talked about for very long - but overall the strong USA team got a pretty soft bracket. So many people are discussing this like it's funny... and it kinda isn't. Also, I think this is very disheartening on the goal scoring record. Alex Morgan scored 5 against Thailand and now she's tied for the 12th top goal scorer of all time. She's a stud. So is Sam Kerr - but she got 4 goals today against Jamaica - makes it easier to get your name in the record books that way and have no shame in doing it. However, in Kerr's defense..... Australia needed every single one of those goals to be #2 in their group. They avoided playing France or Germany - so you can argue Sam Kerr saved Australia today big time.

They'll have to beat the best teams in the knockout round if they're going to win, so I wouldn't say they didn't earn it if they win. It just hurts the credibility of the event.
