None of Norway and England looked great. If Norway had better forwards, they could have scored some. I wonder if Beckham 's daughter, who was attending, will play professional football one day.

These refs suck with offsides calls.

Just give France a point at this stage if you want to help them out so badly, refs!

USA USA USA!!!!!!!
Not an expert on soccer tactics, but France really looked like they were controlling the game and just couldn't finish all the opportunities they had.
England's team sounds like they've been rolling so far so we'll have to see how we do in the semis. Should be another tough game.

These refs suck with offsides calls. Computers draw the lines and show it in or off. Blame geometry.

Honestly, that picture looks like off to me, but so infinitesimally off (the toe of a boot) that if it was called on it would be just as accurate. Speaking as a ref myself, this is a call where you're right (or wrong) either way, but my inclination is to allow play to continue. Did the AR call it or was it the ridiculous video doing the work? Because I'd go with the AR's point of view if she calls it off, but if she calls it on I see nothing to overturn that.

Would've looked worse for France if that offsides goal counted.
Not sure if you call that little centimeter offsides but not that it affected the outcome at the end.

A similar offside was called on Bonansea 's first goal on Australia, that was cancelled.

Unless they change the rule so that the player has to have a whole body off, we go with this. And it was the right call anyway, I just wouldn't argue if it was called on.

USA - France: Pretty boring match. USA managed to score a lucky goal early and then did a great tactical game. France had most of the possession, but couldn't find any successful way to penetrate the USA's solid defence and USA did have some very good counterattacking play. I think USA deservingly advances to the semi-final.

Unfortunately, when Bartoli had to go out after the first half because of an injury, Italy had defensive issues, even if Linari and Guagni are great players. Some debatable choices by the referee too. In the first half we had the best opportunities, but apparently heat affected us more because we're smaller.
I just hope this will convince Italian football confederation to give female players the status of professional players. Let's not forget in Italy all females can't be professionals, so they don't have salaries.

Italy is not strong enough physically, not enough professionally devoted players, and their interest in women's soccer is only relatively new. I favored them because they did far better than anyone expected, but today the wind was sucked out of them.
In the 2nd half, they looked like they just lost it. I think conditioning was what mattered in this game. We can tell they weren't very well conditioned in that heat, but they weren't beat by a tactical or offensive advantage like England thumped Norway, and the US handily took care of France.
Also, the substitutions mattered, I agree. Italy looked like a completely different team in the 2nd half. Could be the subs, could be the heat, could be anything. In the first half, they benefited from their own competition because Netherlands looked to Van De Sanden to create. No idea why she's a starting forward, but when she's your most of your offense, the defense doesn't have to do much. When she was subbed, it did Italy a huge disservice and Netherlands suddenly ended up with a ton of set pieces.
Other than a few headers, Netherlands are nothing special overall as a team. Easily the weakest team still remaining.

Sweden - Germany: The better team won. Great tactical play by Sweden. They didn't allow Germany many chances and their counterattacks were on point. I actually see them in the final, as they look like a much better team than Netherlands.

Sad news, even if she wasn't playing in world cup, the National Swiss team player Florijana Ismaili is missing after diving from a small boat into Lake Como yesterday. My prayers for her.

Good shit. Semifinals start tomorrow. This gametime is in Pacific Time, so.... It'll be England and USA on July 2nd. Sweden and Netherlands on July 3rd. There's been some really good soccer in this tournament, but I think my interest will reach its peak next week. Let's bring on the battle of the pale white Caucasian females! My synopsis: It's sad that Italy, Norway, and France had to leave so soon. Norway - looked superb at times this tournament - just they played England who has as good a team as they've ever had in their history. If they don't win this year, they might regret it. Of course the US is probably as good as they've gotten too - even with 3 world cup titles this team has the best lineup ever assembled in world cup history. Italy - Been a really great team outside of one game against the Netherlands. Kinda surprised me how different a team can look between the two halves, but this is the best example. In the first half, they looked like the Italy that handed Australia and decked China, and was one horrible penalty call away from a 0-0 Final against Brazil. But I'm surprised of the bad effort they gave in the 2nd half vs The Netherlands. The heat dazed them like it did Germany. So far the more "Northern" team on the European map has won both the two Semifinal matchups played in extreme heat. Netherlands over Italy. And Sweden over Germany. Could be a reason for that. France - This is a team I think can get better. Unlike England who I think has reached their peak, France should get ready for 2023 which I think they might have a shot at finally unseating the Americans. Problem is Eugenie Le Sommer is getting a bit old - as is Henry. But they could see in 2023.........Cascarino and Gauvin become so dangerous in their mid 20s prime, they'll have two of the deadliest forwards plus some veteran depth, and team with hopefully an upgraded defensive lineup, might not be the team next time to get beat by the US so badly. Germany - Much like Italy, I'm so shocked how bad of an effort they gave against Sweden. After the first 15 minutes, Sweden had complete control. Germans looked like they had a very vanilla offense with nothing dangerous created, and their backline crumbled. It might not be the best period of German soccer, and Marozsan played with an injured toe, but they deserved to go out after that. United States - No surprise, this team is still the team to beat. All talk was silenced after the France win. They were nervous after that effort against Spain, and that 13-0 thumping of Thailand wasn't a positive thing for many people. But the rest of their games were pretty much flawless. Rapinoe's foot and her position playing is among the best in the world. Got two physical defenders in Dahlkemper and O'Hara. Even going down the list Lavelle, Mewis, Ertz, and Horan....... they can play pretty much anyone they got and still win. Against England, their tactics and lineup strategies will be really challenging to figure out. I'd take out Alex Morgan and add Mallory Pugh. Pugh is one of the best at running the field. Morgan is hard to cover, but I think the midfield pieces could be useful against England. I think the US could look to clear advantages, such as having Pugh running down the midfield. She is so strong doing that. And have Press way out wide. That could create space in the midfield. I say that because Press in my opinion is the best wide playing player on our team apart from Rapinoe. England - Freaking awesome team. So well coached. Lucy Bronze has one of the strongest kicks, and makes England dynamic. They're looking like they're scoring goals from pretty much anywhere - that rocket Bronze kicked against Norway was just a great move of coaching. By having her at that spot, and White around the goal, Nikita Parris' forcing defenders wide then beating their positions or kicking in, and Jill Scott always lurking around.... no wonder they're so tactically superior and possibly the best team around the goal area. USA vs England feels like 1781 all over again, and hopefully the better group wins. Again for a 2nd time. Sweden - I think Germany was unable to cover Blackstenius and Jacobsson - two athletically superior players that was just gliding down the field against Germany and taking quick strikes on goal - just a pair of really great, fluid hips and direction changing displayed imo. I think Sweden would look very different without those two though, but since they have them against the Netherlands - I don't think the Netherlands can contain them and those two will make the difference in the game. Might be a 1-0 game at the end, but I'll be very surprised if the Dutch ends up winning.

Poor England. You gotta be good at penalty kicks though. But they've missed like every kick in this tournament.
Now they got a red. Really shooting themselves in the foot now.
