This does not interest me in the slightest. Will still watch it when it dominates award season though. I kinda doubt it. Sounds like the kind of thing that crashes and burns after all the hype.

Not so sure Tom Hanks conjures up Ben Bradlee. Hope he proves me wrong.

I read the script and it's the exact prestige Spielberg middlebrow Oscar bait (men sitting in rooms and yelling at each other over political reasons) you expect from the premise though it lacks a strong emotional undercurrent and throughline
It's mainly about the Post and their tense conflict with the Times, who is reporting about Nixon and the White House's coverup regarding Vietnam, thought it really doesnt take off until the 2nd act
Streep's character is very determined but also haunted by her family who owned the post, while Hanks has a more extroverted and hot-tempered role-- his character has quite a loose temper and contains many monologues
There's many relevant notions about the president banning and discrediting the press, and I could see critics even grade the movie on a slight curve but overall I'm still sure this will contend for Picture, writing, and acting noms-- Hanks might actually happen again

I also get some Lions for Lambs vipes with this one
But yeah i am very excited. Hope this will finally be Tom Hanks' return to the Oscars… and I like "journalism" movies so I am curious how Spielberg works that out.

Yeah, the casting call for the kid has appeared a number of times over the last few weeks, so I'm not surprised that they're having trouble finding the right kid (the requirements are pretty tough). So if this indeed comes out this year with "Mortara" later, I'm all up for it! Especially with how efficient Spielberg is as a filmmaker and how fast his shoots are.

It makes sense why he wants this out-- it'll be a very easy production (timely material, period but entirely dialogue driven and more straightforward and smaller than Bridge of Spies)
If it is ready, I'd predict noms for Picture, Actor, Actress, Screenplay, Score (duh), and maybe Production
I dont see him getting a directing nom

I think that'll be Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara which is said to be a big, ambitious, epic period film

Hanks better get nommed around this point now. Can't believe he still hasn't gotten his Captain Philips making-up nod.

Officially scheduled for 12/22/17 in limited (most likely a 1/12/18 wide release), according to BOM. Very much looking forward to this film. The subject of free press is still a relevant topic and I'm interested to see how Spielberg tackles it.

I have a feeling like all these new announced names will end up having a very limited appearance, but would really love to see Sarah Paulson getting award buzz for this.

That's very true While it's a large ensemble, only Bagidkan and Streep's daughter have any true noteworthy scenes but still not much meat on their bones Many are going to have a few lines of dialogue at most

What the fuck? MATTHEW RHYS AND CARRIE COON ARE GOING TO BE IN THE SAME THING? AND BOB ODENKIRK IS ALSO GOING TO BE IN THIS THING? ALONG WITH MICHAEL STUHLBARG? AND ZACH WOODS AND JESSE PLEMONS AND BRADLEY WHITFORD AND ALISON BRIE AND DAVID CROSS??? Honestly, who even needs Hanks and Streep anymore? Regardless, this just moved up all kinds of slots on my watchlist.
