The Thing takes the spot? Iiiiinteresting. I'll take it.
And Psycho, though great, is still a bit too high. I love that top five, but I'd love it more if that were at the bottom of it ... but I digress.

The Thing is a superb choice for #1, I can't complain at all. It's an excellent film, with great characters, and the Rob Bottin special effects are some of the absolute best of the genre.

So...Leone tops the western poll, Scott sci-fi, and Carpenter horror. Pretty fitting, I'd say.

Mmmmm... that's some good horror right there.
Fantastic presentation. Really, aside from the ludicrously high placements of both The Shining and Rosemary's Baby (both of which are vastly overpraised), I'm pleased with these results.

Great job Ban! Black Christmas only five spots away from Halloween with half the amount of ballots but who's counting!!!!!

Ban, curious what made the most ballots that didn't make the Top 50? The two best that didn't make the cut -- George A Romero's Martin (but Inland Empire made it higher than Night of the Living Dead so ) and Nightmare on Elm Street..... one of the most ingenious horrors ever.....spawning arguably the best, wildest franchise.......

Thanks for putting this together Ban The Thing is a very solid #1. I've never been so scared watching a movie as I was as a kid seeing the dog kennel scene for the first time. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre should've been Top 5. Love Picnic at Hanging Rock, personally don't see it as horror at all though.

Some total duds -- Blair Witch, Hereditary... My pleb detector's readings are off the charts! You're not wrong about Hereditary though.

I am always torn with Don't Look Now - I love so much of it but never got that ending (I get it thematically) - just it's the way it's done. I have come around to it over time but never fully .......expected it to higher because a lot of people love it so much. I'm actually the opposite - I think the ending works extremely well but find the rest of the film kind of plodding.

26. "I can feel death in this room! I feel a presence, a twisted mind sending me thoughts! Perverted, murderous thoughts... Go away! You have killed! And you will kill again!"Deep Red (1975) Directed by: Dario Argento Points: 75 Number of Ballots: 5 Highest Ranking: #5 on 1 ballot Too low!

21. "I'll save them all... the whole world."The Cremator (1969) Directed by: Juraj Herz Points: 92 Number of Ballots: 7 Highest Ranking: #7 on 2 ballots Would’ve been cool af if this made the Top 10.

"You've gotta be fucking kidding me" was pretty much my reaction on seeing the winner. One of the few movies here to make my ballot (more a reflection on my list being weird than my thoughts on official top 50, which is mostly great), so I'm over the moon for it.
