I'm trying to figure out why people are questioning Denzel's ability to score a nod here. He doesn't need a high profile project.

I'm trying to figure out why people are questioning Denzel's ability to score a nod here. He doesn't need a high profile project. Some people have always been weird about acknowledging what Denzel's status within the industry and within AMPAS is, so I'm not surprised. Whatever you think Daniel Day-Lewis or Jack Nicholson are to the Academy, Denzel is in that category. Maybe moreso, because unlike them, he usually gets nominated without the need of being in a Best Picture nominated movie. He may be their most admired actor ever by that metric, with his nod count. Give him a movie with a whiff of prestige attached to it , and if the role/performance is there, his odds of a nomination are better than most actors alive. Regardless of what you think of Ridley Scott's consistency, Denzel should have been heavily predicted the moment his casting was announced, sight unseen.

People need to calm down ...it may be great.....it may blow but it's Ridley, convention nerds and an early screening reaction (maybe)..........like Napoleon looked like this too at one point..........people are really pulling for Ridley though which is..........nice It' s April ffs

empire (and vieweranon) are a pretty reliable sources Oh snap! Get it Sir Rid! As much as I'm rooting for Denzel to get his third Oscar (and it's sounding like he has the best chance of anyone involved in this film above-the-line to actually win, if the hype holds true), I actually think I'd be even happier for Ridley if he gets best director. Denzel will have several more shots to win another Oscar ( maybe as soon as the following awards season with High And Low), but Ridley hasn't got much time left considering his age, and he's one of the all-time great film directors. This may be his last, best shot, especially if it's all come together strongly.

I just want Ridley to swoop in and snatch the trophy after so many people discounted him for Napoleon, as if the man isn't still cranking out bangers like The Last Duel as well. If we can't get Dr. George his Best Director Oscar, then let it be Scott.

I think this movie will rule but Jesus… eh these tweets hold more weight than those random twitter reactions we see on twitter after a premiere (best superhero movie since dark knight!!!) as those guys have actual insiders in the industry (i think that empire dude is actually apart of it, i remember he watched dune 2 pretty early and called it a masterpiece) but yes, it shouldn’t be taken as gospel. especially considering scarpa wrote the script lmao. but it is promising

Joseph Quinn talking about Gladiator 2, and and mentions that seeing Denzel Washington inhabit his role & Ridley Scott operate at this level changed him profoundly.

These congratulatory showers of praise are always so embarrassing and cringe-inducing. He's on their fucking payroll, what else is he gonna say? "Denzel was kind of pedestrian"?

Or he could just be a young actor genuinely appreciative of the opportunity to work with legends of the industry who have been around for decades doing what he's doing at the highest level. The biggest thing Quinn has done before this is 8 episodes of a very popular Netflix show. Working with Scott and Washington is literally him stepping up into the big leagues. There's absolutely no reason to believe his awe at working with them and experiencing their craftmanship first hand isn't a completely sincere and genuine reaction to working at a different level than has worked at before. We can't be cynical all the time. It's exhausting

I hope Quinn did not inhabit Caracalla too much, that bastard was as cruel as it comes, just evil incarnate. On film, potentially a great role for Quinn, depending how big is his part.
