Wow upset Winner: Green Book 1st If Beale Street Could Talk 2nd Roma what's so upset about it? those are great winners! I think Trump's horrible administration influence people's choice on picking the winner though I'm not upset. It's an upset cause a lot of people thought a star is born would be in at least top 3.

Yeah, Ali could definitely win a second Oscar in supporting this year seeing as that category is still pretty weak.

Woah. I had ASIB, Green Book and First Man. Didn't even cross my mind to predict Roma here.
Interesting that the two runner-ups were films that were originally dismissed as too niche/alienating to hit big with awards groups. Amour is definitely a very apt comparison to Roma in this case, one that's making more and more sense given this placement and the fact that it's now officially Mexico's Foreign Language pick.

Hmm..... ok that scene has a mounting almost satanic disquiet to it that I like but Moss is maybe my least favorite actress so overall still not looking forward it. These female pop star/rocker movies are coming at us in droves lol. Actually very curious, why do you dislike her? Everything I've seen her in, she's been phenomenal in my opinion, with her work in Mad Men possibly being my all-time favourite in all of TV history.

I'm not Mattsby so I can't speak for him, but I really don't care for Elisabeth Moss in anything that isn't Mad Men. It's kinda hard to describe, but one of the things I dislike is the energy she brings -- it doesn't vibe well. I've largely found her miscast in most of the leading roles she's played away from television, and I can see the effort in trying so very hard to be (for lack of a better term) "indie." Almost every non-Peggy Olson role she's done has come off increasingly dishonest, none more so than her works with Alex Ross Perry.

Hard to say exactly, it's kind of just I can't stand her lol. It's rare but I struggle to get into any of her works bc of her screen presence alone which I find totally lacking. Queen of Earth was the first major perf of hers I saw and that movie is way up my alley but I kinda hated it and I think it's bc of her. I turned off Top of the Lake after 2eps bc of her. Didn't get into Handmaid's Tale either. I actually saw her irl once at a broadway show and during intermission she was making a fuss about something and that's pretty much always how I picture her. And all this before I knew she was a scientologist too...umm... EDIT: 100% agree with stephen (though , I haven't seen Mad Men !)

Yeah, I bailed on Top of the Lake after two episodes as well, for largely the same reason. Moss became a huge favorite on the old board during her Mad Men run, as sort of the favored child of the show (she routinely graced the #1 spot on cast rankdowns and even did mightily well when we ranked our favorite TV performances overall). And people really were losing their minds over her burgeoning film career, but I never bought it. There's just a dishonesty in her performances outside of Peggy that I can't quite reconcile myself with. Whenever we're meant to empathize with her or root for her, I always feel like she's slyly drawing us in just to pull the rug out from under us. It might work better if she were playing villains, but most of the time that isn't the case.
