Hoping I'll be able to catch it this weekend. It looks like it may be something special, so I'm sufficiently hyped for it.

Just caught a sort-of pre-screening of it (basically a one-day advance), and while I would not say it's 100% on Rotten Tomatoes good (though, I mean, a rare few really are), it's still pretty brilliant.
The best thing about it is how it's essentially a film taking place in a world that has all new rules yet the characters literally cannot offer any exposition to the audience and rather depends on its audience to be smart enough to understand it on its own. And Krasinski does a fantastic job as writer/director in offering just enough in visual cues to help guide the story. The first ten minutes alone give you everything you need, as well as ups the stakes, all without any dialogue spoken (signed, but not spoken) and it is so fucking good. Pretty much from beginning to end is non-stop intensity.
And that sound design is fucking incredible. It would be daylight robbery if it doesn't get nominated for Sound Mixing at the very least, but it's not a far-cry for Sound Editing, too.
Really enjoyed this one and as I've been a fan of John Krasinski since the first couple seasons of The Office premiered, I'm so happy this film will launch his career behind-the-camera. It's pretty much his show here (possibly even on-screen as well, though all four of the main cast members are fantastic. Special mention to Noah Jupe for taking what could have been a really whiny character and making him super sweet and lovable and offering possibly one of the most convincing performances of fear I've ever seen from a child actor), so I'm very happy this film will be a success.

To those who’ve seen it, jump scares: How frequent are they?

Anxious to see it, but I will say RT at 100% isn't a necessarily a good thing for horror especially. You really don't want horror everybody can agree on, if you're really doing horror right, you are shutting out some people right off the bat.

I saw it last night. Absolutely loved it. A great example of showing and not telling. Super intense but also tender and nuanced in the right places. The acting from the main four is superb, but I found Blunt to be exceptional. I might even say it's my third favorite performance from her. It was definitely one of those movies to see with an audience, even if the one I saw it with were acting like dumbass college kids (to be fair, the majority of them were that) in the beginning, but they were cool for the rest of the movie. It's my #3 so far this year.

I like it. Has a unique premise and it doesn't try to show off instead it builds tension without revealing much. The dialog is very minimal (sign language is used mostly). I like how Krasinski subtly made a silent-horror film in an era or louder films with too much exposition. Emily Blunt did a great job.
Thought some of the scenes could have been kept longer to add more suspense. Also for a moment i wished for a more fleshed out story but it's 'to the point' approach worked it it's favor and makes it standout from other horror films. I'm not sure how it will age as time passes by- 7.5/10

Really dug this. And its time we start taking Krasinkski seriously . Him and his wife (Blunt) were both fantastic in their roles . Also, I normally get annoyed with child actors but they were good here esp the girl .
I'll add some more thoughts on this later . solid 8/10

Mightily impressed with what Krasinski did here. It's very much a character/family study just as much as it is a monster movie, and the shuddersome atmosphere is palpable throughout. It never waivers from what is going on in the present moment and thanks to the great performances from everyone, there's always a sense of dread. Excellent sound work of course and it's shot quite beautifully.
8/10

I also thought it was very refreshing that this didn't rely on a lot of gore (hence the PG 13 rating )

My new #1 of the year. Genuinely good horror that doesn't rely on gore for its scares. Great concept and execution with serious emotional depth. Blunt is fantastic and may stick in my lineup at the end of the year. Glad it's doing so well at the box office. PS: How great has horror been lately?

Nah...the performances were good but the more I think about the story the more idiotic it becomes. So many conveniences and plot holes. And the creature design was so cliche...come to think the film was just cliche after cliche only packed in 'shhh!' gimmick.
