Wasn't as scary as Get Out, but it did make me laugh more.

I'm not really the best person to ask about movies like this because I just don't like horror as a genre (I could count the number of horror movies I genuinely like on one or two hands) but I didn't like it. They did that old Hitchcock gag of "Oh no, hopefully that thing doesn't fall of the shelf" like every two or three scenes, plus some standard jump scares. I think one of the most important things for horror movies is a slow burn opening to build atmosphere and tension, and this one doesn't even bother with that. It just abruptly dives right in. By virtue of that I didn't really get to know any of the characters, aside from the little girl a little bit at the very end. The sound design was good and the sequence with the red lights/fireworks looked good, though.
I am sort of glad this is having commercial success though, since it's kind of an experimental film, albeit one that didn't really work out. It's also having it's BO success through legs and positive word of mouth from audiences, as opposed to just pre-release hype. So good for them.

Also, I totally get that even despite the troubled times they were horny, but was having a new kid really the best idea they could come up with? The risk itself should've stopped them from banging. Haha I was thinking the same thing. Like yeah you gotta burn off stress, but oral sex is a thing. At least they acknowledged that babies are loud and thus tried to take precautions with the soundproof room.

Not perfect but pretty solid film. Of course, the theater going experience was a bit grating at first. I waited a month to see the film because I didn’t want to watch this in a crowded theater. Unfortunately. there were still enough people chewing on popcorn and opening wrappers that it took me a bit out of the movie at first. But once it got going, people seemed to quiet up and I got more immersed.
It’s all pretty well-made and acted, although I wish there was less music. This is a movie where the use of jump scares is pretty justifiable in terms of the plot, but is having a scare chord really necessary? I feel like this has a chance for something really immersive that just felt a little lost whenever the loud music accompanied the jump scare.
Definitely had fun though and would watch again. Thought the creature designs were pretty cool and creepy and enjoyed the minimalist plot that had a decent amount of tense moments. 7.5/10

That's one of the reasons I thought the sound design wasn't as impressive as it could've been - it's all that extra noise on the soundtrack! What the jump scares really didn't need was that extra ZIIING sound, that shit was so lame.

6ish/10
It's entertaining — only really 83m and the whole second half is practically one tense stretched sequence. As an emotional family drama it's kinda matted and not very effective (the movie is a little too concerned with presenting them as decent people, the dialogue is phony, notions of guilt and miscommunication aren't felt, and also Krasinski's yodel at the end made me laugh). As a horror it isn't very scary or unique. I mean it has a good hook but it's really not fully explored in an interesting way like it could have been. Performances are fine. In retrospect, the logic gaps are kinda mind-boggling.
And.......seemed to be a waste of Panavision anamorphics and 35mm lol. At least the rental I saw, it's cleaned and color graded to a degree that 100% looks digital but that's a whole different convo....
