What films would you erase from history?

I'll probably get killed for this but the 70s were rolling along quite wonderfully until Star Wars came out and single-handedly created multiple generations of weirdo man-children with a love of fuzzy space narratives that they could pretend was you know, um, interesting.

As a Pixar and WDAS fan, I can't let this happen.

I'm not one for erasing art or cinema regardless of the message, but yeah, this one would be Public Enemy #1 if I had to do it.

Explains why Noé made sure the rape scene was shot with a still camera on the ground and made sure it didnt jerk around too much as he personally said something on the lines of that a moving camera would support the rapists actions and a still camera highlights the horrors of rape... hu doesn't it?

Now if it is pro-revenge, why would it be pro-rape? You are suggesting that the film supports taking revenge (on the wrong person) for someone who did something the film also supports? If the film is just violent porn, why is the violence limited to 2 or 3 scenes, and the rest focuses on the psychology of the characters? 

Yknow how the entire film is structured specifically so that the revenge scene is not a satisfactory payoff?

So basically because you can't stomach it, we should automatically assume the director is a liar with malicious intentions.

How? The purest character is a female victim of a male rapist. The other men are vengeful murderers. If anyone's portrayed in a negative light it's men.

I don't think the film implies a causal relationship between homosexuality and rapists... Really just happenstance

How on Earth could you think this? The revenge is unsatisfactorily placed at the beginning of the film for the very purpose of making it non exploitative. The rape is shown with absolutely no flash or flair, not accentuated or dramaticized in any way. It is simply depicted as is. Horrific and cold.

Well, if no one is going to make you believe then no one is going to make you believe, but I think a casual viewer would easily come to that conclusion. Listening to Noe on the film further solidifies it.

"They may look like it on surface, the director may as well deceive you. But they are not. The camera whether it's moving or not enjoys the torture in the film. Period."

The camera doesn't "enjoy" anything. Maybe some particularly sick viewers enjoyed a rape scene but that's more on them than the film. I'm sure there were a few Nazis out there who got a hard on when Edward Norton curb stomped a black man in American History X. Don't think that means it's an exploitative scene for the pleasure of the audience.

I think you might have some particularly awful people in your life if you think there was personal gratification to be had from that scene.

Not sure what you're getting at here. Can I ask, what depiction of rape is just a depiction, not an "infliction?" And what is the significant difference?

"It's a sick film through and through and I'm sad there are so many fans of it. Sorry."

It's a film about sick people and horrific violence, and makes one of the best cases against its subject matter I've ever seen. If you think fans of the film are getting pleasure out if its rape and revenge I really question your view of humanity. You don't need to like the film, but to assume such bad faith on the part of others is really unhealthy.
