This must be meme-ified: "This is an $82,000 dry cleaning bill I submitted to Netflix..........not only did they actually pay it .......then they contacted me to make it into a 6 part series too!"

This must be meme-ified: Harvey: "Marty. Those notes from Netflix say that they love Leo's performance in the picture. When did he show up to shoot? He was never on set."

DeNiro is far from undeniable. His ink is good, but nothing that can't miss. You've already got the likes of Gregory Ellwood saying that in his Oscars analysis he thinks DeNiro is the least likely of the actors to get the nomination theplaylist.net/irishman-oscars-scorsese-20190927/The movies reviews are great, and could be enough to get DeNiro over the line, but he's already being doubted right out of the gate, so I'm not exactly sure what the gloating is for. You'd think he was getting Joaquin in Joker level ink or something. Murphy I'd say has the stronger personal reviews, while DeNiro has the movie. There are going to be big snubs this season (and I freely admit Murphy could be one of them), so who the fuck knows at this stage? But leads of Oscar Best Picture movies miss all the time, especially when there are strong supporting options in the same movie. And it happens for Scorsese Gangster films fairly often as well ( Goodfellas and The Departed scored nods for supporting players, but none for the leads). Again, the fact that Murphy is probably favored to win a couple of televised awards in comedy categories ( Critics Choice, Golden Globes) will give him his own momentum (not guaranteed to win those categories, but feels the most likely).I'm not going to lose any sleep whoever gets nomimated or not, but y'all need to slow your roll. DeNiro and Murphy both have pluses and minuses you can argue for or against in getting nodded. It's far from a done deal at this stage. Shit, this category has enough options that they both could miss I don’t think anyone is arguing that he’s undeniable, but considering he also has great reviews, a film with much more prestige, the nostalgia factor, ect, he’s definitely a better bet than Murphy. I also think this film will be a top priority for Netflix, while Dolemite will be 3rd at an absolute best case scenario, but most likely 4th. Murphy desperately needed Dolemite to place at TIFF considering there’s no buzz for the film in any other major category and the fact that Netflix will be juggling so many other bigger films.

Murphy desperately needed Dolemite to place at TIFF considering there’s no buzz for the film in any other major category and the fact that Netflix will be juggling so many other bigger films. Maybe, but again, people keep conveniently ignoring that Murphy is very likely to actually win major televised awards (Globes etc). I have no idea why people are writing off Dolemite Is My Name either. It's on 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (with 38 reviews, so it's a decent sample size) , and seems to be playing incredibly well with audiences . It may or may not "go anywhere", but it's still viable for a Best Picture nod. It's a film about making films, which always plays well in the industry, and it seems suited to SAG type audiences. In a potential field of 8-10 nominees, most of the contenders being dramas, Dolmeite can maybe get in as one of the few laugh out loud movies. It's obviously no frontrunner and won't win, but Best Pic is not out of the running yet for one of the final slots. The film has the reviews. Let's see if it's "buzz" starts going up when wider audiences start watching it and it's getting more industry screenings. Like I have been saying....this is a stacked season, with lots of options for voters to pick from. Things people are underestimating (Like Dolemite) have a decent chance of picking up support, and some films people expect to do well can end up underperforming. So it's exciting and less predictable than usual. I don't want to make this a Murphy thread, so I think we should wrap up this strand. But I think you can make arguments for either.

Oh man now I need to watch Marnie and figure out which shot Scorsese is talking about, and then try and locate it in his own movies. What a great back-and-forth. Aside from Scorsese's brief compliments of Pulp Fiction on Ebert's show and Tarantino's notorious adoration of Taxi Driver, these two artists rarely talk about each other's work or processes, so this was a delight.

Not only is that a great picture - that's a Mount Rushmore shot, and a superb interview etc. but the way they carried themselves here in these comments and 5 days ago at NYFF is some new record in total alpha-male iconic bad-assery.........I couldn't have written a script for this movie to play out any better in any way. Post Brando GOAT's of all-time.........and that was without this movie .....I'm LMAO and I don't even know why, I'm just really happy and shit

Funnily enough, De Niro and Pacino will also have the highest grossing movies (unadjusted for inflation) of their careers in 2019. Joker will undoubtedly make more money than Meet the Fockers (at $398M) and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is already the highest grossing movie of Pacino's career.

THE CINEMA GODS ARE ON OUR SIDE?!?! These reviews have me, in the words of Moira Rose, shocked and delighted. Pacino usually gets the optimism outta me but even so the word has been way better than expected. Still reading thru 'em..... Jeez did I pick the worst time to go on vacation. Already w/ Variety piece seeing how this campaign, with these guys, is taking on a deeper kinda mythic feel, like pacinoyes once put it - a career victory lap. All the way to the Oscars - which will be the reward after the real reward (the work). I'm seeing this in ten days......

I think one of the reasons there hasn't been much interaction is that Spike Lee is a good friend of Scorsese's, and Spike/QT have had prickly relations since about 1997. Richardson said QT actually visited the set of Casino and attended Scorsese's screenings of random movies there, so there's evidence that QT at some point had a relationship with Scorsese. But it is interesting, as QT is very friendly with Scorsese friends like Schrader, Spielberg, DiCaprio, PTA, etc. so you'd still think there'd be more than we've been privy to.
