Go home, CGI. This is not your year.

I’m very excited of course but the digital photography here just looks so ... off. It looks like HBO TV movie quality, and it’s very distracting.

I've been waiting for this film for about a decade and today is the day we actually have some footage. CGI looks very natural. That was my biggest concern about this movie. Judging by the trailer, there are no worries. I loved seeing Pesci again. Looks like we're gonna have some great performances in this. I'll watch it again (about 250 times) to observe some more details.

Hmmmm. Good trailer. Looks like they're going to touch on the Kennedy assassination, which I wasn't expecting. CGI looks decent but still noticeable, especially De Niro. And still no sign of what he's going to be like in the film. I hope he isn't half asleep

Maybe it's just deceptive marketing, but this doesn't feel like it has the kinetic energy of a typical Scorsese crime movie. All feels a bit subdued. More like DeNiro's second directorial effort The Good Shepard.
Scorsese may need to whip out his full catalogue of Rolling Stones songs to breathe life into this one.

People complaining about the CGI have just obsessing over it for two years and have put their brain in a place where they cannot realize that it actually looks pretty solid.

Great trailer and the de-aging CGI looks pretty damn great too.

yeah, I don't know. The more footage I see the more I need to see more footage because what they've shown hasn't convinced me yet. Not crazy about the CGI, the photography looks off, and I have absolutely no sense of De Niro's character/performance yet.
Pacino is going to be great though. You can tell that kinda thing with just one clip.

I have a concern that De Niro’s performance will be very still and internalised, which would’ve been compelling and intense in the 1970s-1990s but can now seem wooden and bored. I hope Scorsese was able to pull a great performance out of him but the trailer gives is nothing. Maybe it just isn’t a trailer-friendly performance.

Looks good.
EDIT: But could there be a reason they’re holding off on showing the faces clearly?

Granted it's a teaser, but Pesci looks to be best of those three at least.

The whole point of this film is the union business - the only way that I can see this wouldn't work is if they skipped over the union details, the raiding of the Teamster union fund etc. - from just that (aces) trailer......there's no way the union stuff is getting glossed over.
If that was out of the film - it would be more of the same but that element makes it unique to American film and Scorsese and frames the Hoffa tragedy.
Can't hardly waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.........

Granted it's a teaser, but Pesci looks to be best of those three at least. Why was no one really talking about Pesci as a bigger Supporting Actor contender? Considering his track record with Scorsese is pretty immaculate ( Raging Bull, Goodfellas etc), we should have maybe put more respect on his name.

Looks good. EDIT: But could there be a reason they’re holding off on showing the faces clearly? They did with De Niro in the last scene of the teaser and I can't say the CGI went totally unnoticed there... On the other hand, 2-3 people of ILM posted two days ago they finished working on this. So maybe some scenes in the teaser were not yet ready when they made it.

And why build the trailer around the reveal of De Niro’s de-aged face if the ILM work is incomplete? We have to assume this is the completed work, especially as Marty is now in Oklahoma scouting locations for his next film. I feel kinda bummed. I’m sure this will still be a good film but for it to be up there with GoodFellas, The Godfather etc it really needs the CGI to not be distracting.

Like they were trying to hide it. And I know it’s only three seconds, but you compare De Niro to Sam Jackson in Captain Marvel, and it does feel a bit retrograde. Still, it’s Scorsese, so I gotta give him the benefit of the doubt.

Couple notes, no looks at Cannavale or Keitel and many others...
At :30 to the right of Pesci is (solid actor) Domenick Lombardozzi under a ton of makeup as Fat Tony Salerno.
At 1:02 you can see Jack Huston as Bobby Kennedy which people have guessed already but hadn't been confirmed!
And wanna say again how Pacino's role looks really dynamite. This quick trailer shows him in front of three different crowds, and there'll be more, including a big speech of his I won't spoil where it happens but if you read the book you know it's a major "Scene" - there's so much Hoffa ground to cover. The brilliance of the book and hopefully this movie is that while Sheeran's telling his story, he's really telling Hoffa's....

The brilliance of the book and hopefully this movie is that while Sheeran's telling his story, he's really telling Hoffa's.... I've said this before but for an actor who is the all-time most awarded American actor across the Triple Crown categories ever (5 wins) - he gets left out a whole lot from no-brainer nods - on film, on stage and TV - Scarface, The Insider, Paterno, American Buffalo (ineligible to be nominated for a revival), Donnie Brasco - some of his very best work never gets nodded at all. But the role looks dynamite here - and his time looks significant - nothing in that trailer showed him with De Niro - they likely have what 3 or 4 in person scenes (?), or in the big speech outside of prison when released seems missing and towards the end you can see the scene Stephen Graham talked about - knocking his bowl of ice cream off the table btw. Side note - The Pesci "he likes to talk don't he" line is very Sopranos-reminiscent

Side note - The Pesci "he likes to talk don't he" line is very Sopranos-reminiscent I wanna know who voted for Kinnear, Forster (no GG or SAG and sole nom for pic), etc, and not Pacino in '97 - I want names! You haven't read the book right? They should have a lot more than 4 scenes, in the book they spend a ton of time together. The trailer doesn't show really how Hoffa relies on Sheeran, who becomes his babysitter of sorts, it's more than just protection and secret dealing. There's some very funny and sweet moments as they share a hotel room together that they've gotta include, it involves a watermelon and a jug of wine. Another note on the trailer, bc I just watched Once Upon a Time in America, there's some echoes there in terms of scale, mob, politics, and that telephone ringing in the beginning made me think of it...
