Unpopular opinion but he could have retired after the Basterds lol I'd say Django but I see what you did there. Alter history? Ok, good. Great even. But it's a one time trick.

Imo it worked amazingly in Basterds but when he tried it again, it lost its significance, its importance. It felt more of a repetition. And of course it didn't have the same effect because in Basterds he didn't REALLy change the result, only the "means". In Once Upon, it was totally different. Didn't work for me.

Well I'm glad that's finally settled. There was debate on whether it was Squeaky or Sharon.

Django and OUATIH are wack, but The Hateful Eight is exquisite.

She was too big and distracting for playing such a small role, Fanning was perfect in it.

It didn't sound like he was actively working on it. More like he did 2 chapters a couple years ago, and may finish it off in like 2025.

To me, it has nothing to do with the repetition of rewriting history. It worked perfectly in Basterds because it was a seamless part of the story. They are hunting Nazi's. Of course, Hitler would be part of it.
There's a ton of things I love about Hollywood but the Manson plot doesn't flow with the rest of the story. This is the issue for me. The story is about aging actors in Hollywood... then they randomly stumble upon the Manson family? It has nothing to do with the previous 2 hours so it feels tacked on. I'm interested to read the book to see if he integrates it into the story in a better way.

I still don't understand retiring after 10 films.
Death Proof isn't great. The ending of Django is awful and nearly ruins the movie. It's not like he has a perfect resume to protect. Besides, who cares? 15 great films with a few clunkers is better than 10 great films.

I would not be surprised in the slightest if he actually follows through on retiring after 10 films and then just spends the rest of his life writing novelizations of those films. It would be very him.

I think it's still very much the popular opinion that he has a one of a kind filmography and he's obviously just scared of losing the "event status" that his movies still enjoy.

But if he decided to continue and make for example a movie evey 4-5 years (which he still may do imho), every new film of his would still be a "special event".

According to a new interview he gave to "The Big Picture" podcast, Tarantino said that his plan was always this: to write this book, then finish a "cinema book", then to do a theater play about OUATIH, and then finally to start thinking about his last film.
So it's safe to assume it won't happen for a while. I think his tenth movie will probably come out in 2024 or 2025 at the earliest.

yeah Tarantino discussed in a recent Maron interview that the book confirms what the movie implied -- that Cliff Booth definitely killed his wife. Delightful. He also went on about those kinds of manly Hollywood stars don't exist nowadays.
