Please, share your thoughts on this beautiful, brilliant woman - the most daring American actress, ever?
Filmed in conjunction with Cartier when she was serving as jury President at Venice... Her answers are fascinating.

Has that gift of each of the 2 GOATs - as playful an actress as Huppert ......and as shaky with an accent as Pacino.........because those accents matter about as much to a great actor as what kind of gum they like....pfffft........I always loved this scene and have posted it before and how free and fun she can be........I love how she played Margaret White, Clarice Starling and Lila Crane - come on - who does THAT?!? - and played twins on a soap opera because sure, why not.......and worked with Altman, PTA, Scott, Cronenberg, Malle etc. What's not to love?

(Consider her lisp in May December - I'm not sure if this is something she created herself or if it was written, but it was brilliant.) Also... She's been the only American in British productions on multiple occasions (she's about to do it again in 'Mary & George'!) - as often as Katharine Hepburn or Meryl Streep, if not more! Obviously it could be that she's so well-regarded internationally that her accent work doesn't matter (like Pacino ), but I always think she gives beautiful performances in these cases. Edit: Legends just legend-ing :

British GQ: Sandy Powell lists Moore among her favorites. On the subject of her favourite actors to work with, Powell treads carefully. “Leo [DiCaprio] is great. Cate Blanchett is great. Julianne Moore...” she lists, quietly. “I mean, Julianne and Cate, really. Julianne is great. She was pregnant during the filming of Far From Heaven and she was getting bigger. She was also three months pregnant at the beginning of filming and five by the end. It was her second child and she said, ‘Don’t worry, I won’t get very big. She was wrong,’” says Powell, laughing, taking a sip of her tea. “I had her in a girdle until the last minute, when she couldn’t possibly bear it any more. She’s a trooper. It’s easy to make Cate and Julianne look good. It’s the same with Tilda [Swinton]. The actors I like working with – such as Judi Dench – like clothes, they understand clothes and they know how to wear them.”ibbi

Love her but have to say, her post-Oscar career had been mostly disappointing. She was fantastic in "Gloria Bell", fun in "Maggie's Plan" and elevated the material in "Freeheld" but the rest just didn't do much justice to her talent. I'm glad to see "May December" brought her back to awards season again.

(Consider her lisp in May December - I'm not sure if this is something she created herself or if it was written, but it was brilliant.) I was sort of joking a bit - in that I meant she will sometimes care about the performance overall but eexaggerate a component of it (in that 30 Rock scene - I'm pretty sure she's doing the exact Boston comic accent she wants to use....... as much as Pacino's Tony Montana is his (greatish) specific choice too ) I love the way she modulates her voice and volume with dropouts in Safe - where she uncomfortably swallows several words and walks this line between being withdrawn, being physically ill or possibly being in a stage of madness........like her "voice" is being silenced externally.....one of the few American movies about something that was happening in the culture at the exact time it was made, had never been in a film before afaik and is portrayed in ways that define it's theme. Has any movie used "silences" more creepily? Or our senses overall even......by the end of that movie the idea seems to be only by what you can sense in some way completes you......not the "healthy" opposite - where you are a completed person with the ability to use your senses etc

Which leads me to my next question... What do you think are her 10 most essential films? Her filmography is so chock-full of gems, it's really hard to narrow down... I'm going with: Vanya on 42nd Street Safe Boogie Nights The Big Lebowski The End of the Affair Magnolia Far from Heaven The Hours The Kids Are All Right Still AliceHMs.: Short Cuts; An Ideal Husband; The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio; A Single Man; Maps to the Stars. May December is so fresh that it doesn't seem right to include it, but I think it will be a classic to re-visit again and again. pacinoyes Mattsby

What do you think are her 10 most essential films? My ten fav films she's in..... Short Cuts The Big Lebowski Safe The Fugitive Cookie’s Fortune The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Vanya on 42nd Street Magnolia Children of Men Boogie Nights She's also clearly very good in Far From Heaven, The Kids Are All Right, Still Alice....... though a lot to be desired post-Oscar win tbh. She's so hilarious in her tv spots (30 Rock, Nightcap) but my fav recent perf is prob Maps to the Stars. Also I thought she was far better in When You Finish Saving the World than May December.

Moore thinks her best performance is Far from Heaven; Portman thinks hers is Jackie. Would you agree with them?

pacinoyes - Her lisp in May December was her own choice! The character presents as child-like, so she thought this would be a way to make that point - also, she wanted something for Portman's character to be able to "copy" as an actor playing an actor.

All of that is rather brilliant tbh........not just thinking about herself but character building for her co-star ........I love that kind of stuff........that's actually the best thing I've heard about acting since Dunst revealed some of her acting techniques / tricks in The Power of the Dog

She's eally interesting in how she goes from practical / functionality to artistic / imaginative and finds a common ground - or a middle ground

Not so much character building there, but same ballpark...

Definitely not, but living in the UK and doing theatre are typically huge requisites for the honor - Moore fits neither of those criteria.
