Bob Marley is a globally famous icon. You don't need a very well known actor to play him for the movie to get an audience (similar to when Chadwick Boseman was not a very well known actor, but was selected to play icons like Jackie Robinson and James Brown).
I'd prefer it if they tried to find a Jamaican actor to play Marley. Make it as authentic as possible. The actor doesn't have to be famous.

X 2 ! I worry about casting Stanfield, because Hollywood is notorious for casting American actors with questionable Jamaican accents that most actual Jamaicans find risible ( season 2 of Luke Cage for example. Or Cool Runnings) and kills the beliveability factor. To me, this is one of those castings where authenticity is important. I'd prefer an unknown of Jamaican extraction. If Stanfield can sound believably Jamaican, he'd be great casting, but it's notoriously difficult for American actors to do the Jamaican accent without sounding like caricatures.

No Stanfield or Kaluuya, please. There are other young talented black actors out there.

No Stanfield or Kaluuya, please. There are other young talented black actors out there. Kaluuya would never be cast as Marley anyway. He looks nothing like him, and Marley is too recognisable and iconic to cast someone who can't even have a vague resemblance to him, in face, skin tone or body type. Stanfield, on looks alone, is a great casting suggestion and should be seriously considered. Very few well known Hollywood actors fit Marley's physical profile as well as him.He has Marley's lanky physique, skin-tone and similar bone structure. He could be made to look like Marley very easily. It's just about whether he can be Jamaican without sounding caricaturish. But he has everything else to fit Marley...the look, the eccentric, free-wheeling spirit etc. Kingsley Ben-Adir and Rege Jean Page also probably just about fit the physical profile to be cast as Marley. They are "hot" actors at the moment, so I wouldn't be shocked if one of them were announced to play the role either.

Very cool (as I love Marley's music) . Wonder who will get the part and also sorta surprised there hasn't been a Bob Marley film yet. Looking forward to this project.

Well, I called it that Kingsley Ben-Adir was one of the guys that would be in the frame for this, and lo and behold...he got cast as Bob Marley

The guy at the one-minute mark explaining the plot of the movie to Bob Marley is very Walk Hard-esque.

So this movie will be eligible for 2025 Oscars, not 2024? I am curious about this 2024 release. It's a good trailer. Didn't blow me away, but there's a lot of potential there.

Unlike a lot of these "pick a successful musician out of a hat and make a movie about him" biopics we've seen lately Marley is actually an interesting enough guy to be the central character of a movie so we'll see. Hopefully this falls into the Love & Mercy/Rocketman category as far as these recent musical biopics go.

Hopefully this falls into the Love & Mercy/Rocketman category as far as these recent musical biopics go. Yeah, there doesn't have to be a whole lot of fabrication and stretching the definition of "interesting" in Marley's life, and I thought King Richard was a really solid enough film that I'm intrigued. But yeah, I am hoping for something that isn't boilerplate. Walk Hard killed the musician biopic genre in a big way, and it's only been when they've played with the format (like the two you listed) where they've been able to work beyond feeling like a copy-paste template.

Bob Marley was a strange dichotomy - mixed racial (white Daddy), man of weed peace who may have raped his wife - maybe not but had like a lot of kids with a lot of women.......possibly homophobic.......great movie right? I mean I didn't even get to Peter Tosh....... But: Produced by Ziggy Marley This movie is going to be - no pun - a total whitewash and likely a PoS.......it will be like Walk The Line which somehow took God out of the Johnny Cash story - almost entirely (one scene maybe?) and made him a loser guy who sang ......you know.......Walk The Line 14 nominations, 7 wins, 95% RT incoming
