Doesn't seem to have much influence on the acting winners however. You act like I'm depressed about Joaquin Phoenix and Laura Dern winning. I'll take what I can get. Shit, even Pitt and Zellweger as winners are perfectly fine on their own. Yes, because doesn't seem to have much influence means is "deeply depressed" about the acting winners.

Although then again with 2017 there was at least the shift from critics to televised for most of them, where Pitt and Dern have been the critical favorites as well.

well that's it. 1917 is going to be our next BP. And it's the second best winner this decade. But that would also apply to Parasite.

well that's it. 1917 is going to be our next BP. Or not? As has been pointed out, BAFTA's been a curse for five years running now. Now, I'm not expecting 1917 to lose, but I don't think BAFTA (where it was already the presumed winner anyhow) should be treated as the thing that makes it a done deal.

All 8 matched the Guilds. This could be the first year, the BAFTA and Oscar lined up exactly in the top 8. At most, we have seen 6.
LOCKS -Director, Actor, Actress, Sup. Actor, Sup. Actress.
The three competitive ones are screenplay and picture.

What do you mean? Little Women did win the Critics Choice and Scripter, but I think industry voters are responding to Jojo better than Little Women. It did win at TIFF and it blends together satirical comedy and dark tones. I mean it was not considered a big Oscar contender until yesterday and suddenly it won Bafta and Sag so now it's probably the front runner. Yes it was

have the acting races ever been this boring? What's crazy is that there are still people who believe there will be an upset with Oscar. Even though all 4 now have won BFCA, Globe, SAG, BAFTA.

Although then again with 2017 there was at least the shift from critics to televised for most of them, where Pitt and Dern have been the critical favorites as well. Yes, it was probably never going to happen for Willem Dafoe since he was a lone nominee, but he swept the big critics awards and was on his third nomination. While Laurie Metcalf hadn't been in a film for awhile, I thought that she was popular enough from her stage and television work that maybe she had a small chance. Obviously after the Globes, I figured that it was really over, but at least in 2017, I had more hope that there could be an upset. Even if the Globes had gone for celebrity over being right about the Oscars this year and went with Lopez, I figured that Dern would still win everything else. Then, Lopez wasn't even nominated at BAFTA or the Oscars, Pugh wasn't nominated at SAG, Johansson never emerged as a favorite for either one of her performances, and Robbie was nominated twice at BAFTA, so then Dern had an even easier path to the Oscar because no one else could challenge her.

My reaction to the winners: I thought you wanted Parasite win BD and BP, traitor I have always said I'm fine with either Parasite or 1917 winning. Personally, this is my favorite showdown between two films since No Country/There Will Be Blood, and honestly, either film winning is good news for me.

I thought you wanted Parasite win BD and BP, traitor No Country/There Will Be BloodThe thought of the massive debates people surely had over which one of these two was better when they were both fresh seems like the stuff of legends. I was like 10 years old in 2007 so I missed all of it, lmfao. The awards battles this decade have mostly sucked. That year had a great group of films up for Oscars.
