Geoff Palmer & Lucy Ellis - In Spite of Ourselves
That's Lucy as in pacinoyes hit or miss but current obsession Lucy and the Rats and Geoff Palmer of pacinoyes sometimes faves The Connection teaming up for the cover of the year on John Prine's song......and Lucy steals the show here too.

Grammy-nominated duo right here.
Justin Vernon's voice is gorgeous when unencumbered by electronic gimmicks and autotune. His vocals over that piano instrumental in this Tay-Tay track are giving me blissful Volcano Choir deju vu. Smooth as butter

Motorpsycho - The All is One One of the year's most overlooked gems. This is a trip, first half is straightforward, much into what this vets have done for decades now (song posted below ), then an epic centerpiece N' .O.X. - 45 min long, but have fun with what evokes in you, and ends with some of the best rock songs I've heard in a long time.

I've been listening a lot to Shabrang by Sevdaliza lately. One of my favorite albums of the year.

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Copycat Killer version -
This years it girl celebrates with a victory lap and eerily improves on her song with a very Michael Stipe lyric "The drug stores are open all night"

The Cavemen - Over YouArguably the most cartoonishly offensive band of the last 10 years (not kidding, even I'M offended by them ) - New Zealand's head cases The Cavemen - out of left-field cut by far their best song ever .......... and like everything good in music just about in 2020 it's Power-Pop from a group that has never before really gotten close to this genre. Wtf is going ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhn this year

Sleaford Mods Shortcummings
From their 2021 (January) album, just dropped - one of the 2010s best singles bands.....and it seems like one of 2020s too. No one has this sound....

Jimmy Reflector - (aka James Carman) We Need A Miracle
When Paul Westerberg was a young man he often hid his solo singer-songwritery songs from the band for fear of being called a wuss....I don't know what this is - maybe it's a cover or something......or maybe it's James Carman doing that too - leader of The Reflectors who had my fave debut of 2020 (First Impression) and a whole separate live streaming release with some new songs that hinted that album 2 might improbably match that debut.
He still can't write lyrics but he's got the feel right and for the first time sounds removed from his Power Pop themes - girls/nights out strengths....and I'm not going to call him a wuss .....on the contrary, I'd like to see this show up on album #2.

new listens that are great: Women in Music Pt. III by Haim - Has bops for days. It's also their most aesthetically evolved work to date. What's Your Pleasure? by Jessie Ware - Rhythmic, sensual disco music. The grownup version of that new Dua Lipa Evermore by T-Swizzle. Already talked about this one. Obsessed with it. Un Canto por México, Vol. 1 by Natalia Lafourcade. A delectable smorgasbord of traditional Latin music. Fiery and soulful
