Some hard-on worthy info from Carter Burwell: What's fascinating here is that you have 2 big time actors in a piece that has never known for the acting on film - Macbeth is not like Hamlet, Lear, Richard III or even Othello where you have had great performances on film in all of them - the best acted version of Macbeth to me is the most visually bland (the McKellen/Dench version) - every other Macbeth that works - Welles/Polanski/Kurosawa are directorial dominant films not acting dominant films. What's being described is unique and exciting.........at least from the descriptions we've gotten so far.........

Denzel coming for that Oscar, bitches. There's only one rub...... Right now, I'm thinking that if Joel (er, Roderick) works fast enough, they may be able to make a Cannes bow next year. Washington and McDormand challenging for their first prizes there intrigues me even more than runs for their potential third Oscars. That would put Washington at 2/3 for the festival triple crown, and maybe if McDormand wins with Nomadland at Venice this year (if it runs in comp), she can score her second festival prize consecutively.

Interview with Moses Ingram, who plays Lady MacDuff. A new face in the scene, Yale Drama School graduate Ingram will be familiar to viewers of The Queen's Gambit as Jolene, the best friend of protagonist Beth Harmon growing up together in an orphanage. Ingram gives a fantastic performance in that show that has already been named by the New York Times as one of the Best Performances of 2020. So it seems Joel Coen knew he had a special talent on his hands when he cast her, despite her having almost no previous screen work. Knowing how good Ingram is makes this cast even more impressive. In this interview, she talks about working on The Queen's Gambit and on The Tragedy Of Macbeth.

Oh hell yes, I didn't even realize Moses Ingram was in this. She's amazing in The Queen's Gambit and I hope to see her in more things to come.

Stephen Root has been added to the cast on IMDb... No character listed but may well be Banquo...
Would be his 5th collab with the Coens.

The 3 things I love about this production are all in conflict in some tonal way - Root (very jokey Coens-y you would guess), the witches as birds (great touch potentially and potentially dark af thematically and I've never seen it done in any production iirc) and 85% of the text preserved........which is great but maybe contrasts with the casting/ages of the leads. This is a fascinating film on paper at least......

World of Reel - best site going and not just because it made fun of that dumbass "Top 25 Actors NYT List" (Keanu 4! etc....... ) but every day posting something interesting - a review or some gossip - saying this was shot in black & white - ...............which is kinda awesome and mouth-watering! Not just that, but according to Costume Designer Mary Zophres, appearing on the Team Deakins podcast, “The Tragedy of MacBeth”was shot digitally in black and white. The only other Coen not shot in color was 2001’s “The Man Who Wasn’t There.” (Zophres mentions it at 1 hour and 11 minute mark). www.worldofreel.com/blog/2021/1/joel-coens-upcoming-macbeth-shot-in-black-and-white

Also won't seem as fresh when Pacino does his Lear in B&W too...

This is random, but I was wondering if we know who the editors will be on this. Is Joel doing it himself? Is Ethan joining in? Someone else?

Hmmmmm, this is how an actor's mind works when they're each 30 years too old ideally for their roles.
Kidding, kidding...... but made myself laugh anyway .....

The Lighthouse comment is misleading. Erik answered with that when asked about his source, not the tone or quality of the movie.

Hmmm...I'm sure Netflix made a play for this film but A24 went with Apple+. Wondered if they felt it would get lost in the shuffle with Netflix Awards line-up or the stigma of Netflix would hurt its best chances on Oscar night. Not sure.
