Ehhh....reviews are all over the place (definition of mixed). Some big critics really like it, others find it blah and derivative of serial killers movies past (comparisons to Seven especially seem to be hurting it a lot with some). Early awards talk was obviously massively overblown, as I suspected (though for some reason Jared Leto is doing the awards campaign circuit like he has a Best Supporting Actor nomination coming his way ). Sounds like a solid late night cable watch....So ideal for HBO Max.

I mean, I still intend for this to be my first 2021 release that I see. Might rewatch The Bone Collector (a really underrated film in Washington's canon) as a double-feature.

This looks more likely to finish Rotten - below 59% (that would be his third in a row, because, you know, um, that pesky filmography of his again ) or slightly Fresh perhaps.....maybe low 60s on RT.....I reckon......
RT = 55% atm ..........it's like I'm Nostradamus isn't it?

I mean the gif he used in response literally had the phrase "the little things" in it. So unless he's just trolling, which has never really seemed like Erik's style, then I think he was indeed talking about this film. I don't think it will be fully split, as in like 50/50 or whatever, but right now I'm thinking maybe like 70% on RT. Which is definitely pretty decent. Fair enough. There aren't many movies out there that literally everyone will like, but most of the confirmed reactions have been strong, so overall, it feels like reviews should be good ( let's hope I'm not jinxing it though ). Another reaction from a media person that's seen the film:

Another reaction from a media person that's seen the film: I didn't guarantee anything beyond saying early pundits/critics seemed to indicate reviews might be overall strong, so not really. Speaking of playing yourself though, how you enjoying Da 5 Bloods awards season performance so far?

Been pretty high on Da 5 Bloods' chances for months now.

I remember us damn near coming to blows when I was still high on Da 5 Bloods prospects a few months back. Good to hear you've come around since. Though it's performance so far means most people have.

I don’t even think reviews are that bad. They’re not good, but I imagined something possibility being disastrous when John Lee Hancock was announced. I think this is pretty close to a best case scenario for the film.

Reading some of the reactions and pics that go with them, and I had forgotten just how grey Denzel goes in this film, especially since he mostly seems to make public appearances these days mostly with his dyed black hair. Like in Fences, he really appears to be playing up the age of his character extremely well.

He's naturally grey, so he actually looks his age in this movie.

Just finished reading the released reviews.... But it's just reviews so I won't get that drunk and I will wait until I see it by myself. But as a fan, it's frustrating how things around him almost always end as a disappointment. Joel pleaaaaase....

Honestly, guys, I think if you each put the other on "ignore," you'd both be a lot happier for it.

Honestly, guys, I think if you each put the other on "ignore," you'd both be a lot happier for it. It's a small forum. That doesn't work. Not enough conversation is generated as it is. We have to put up with each other or miss out. Also, as you can see by sirchuck23 , response I'm not the only one who finds his mission irrational. Is 'Chuck supposed to start blocking as well him now? That's silly. He can talk as much as he wants about whatever he wants, and people that disagree will check him on it if they choose. That's how a forum works. It is what it is.

Anyway, back on topic. A new podcast from The Ringer talking about Denzel's career in conjunction with The Little Things.

What I meant was that the film wasn’t completely panned, some highbrow/notoriously tough critics actually like it which I wouldn’t have expected. Better to be divisive than met with a collective shrug imo. I’m watching now though and lol omg, Rami Malek is AWFUL in this. He’s never really bothered me before but I have no idea what he’s trying to do here. It’s hilarious.

I am reposting my comments in this thread from earlier today, which were deleted. I don't know why my post was deleted, I just offered my opinion and it was on topic and I didn't insult anyone. I'll just be less wordy than the last time but my point is below the line - which I cared enough to take time to post - so I care enough to post it twice - AND because it's a good point
************************************************************************************************
The reason for the RT score dropping from it's high off 55% early on and it now being "arguably" low (like was posted earlier today) - not by me) is because Washington has played this role so much - even if it's not the SAME EXACT role. 13 cop films no matter how good or bad they are offer diminishing returns for critics - because they know most of those were not well received anyway - so they start ranking it relative to his other "not so great" cop films on his resume and they rank it middle of the pack - currently under the "Clooney Line" - or 50%.
That's why filmography matters and this film matters so much less than Macbeth - when you get to be 65/66 you have to have the element of surprise or everyone takes you for granted - and even though I haven't seen the film yet there's only so much praise you're going to get for returning to a profession 13 times etc. He can't surprise or surprise "much" here.....it would happen to all his peers/rivals and does - just in a different ways (Hanks, Bridges, Dafoe).

Your post was deleted because your obsessive jealousy over Denzel getting the highest praises or being called GOAT over Pacino these days is insanely disruptive to a thread like this. The mods know what you are doing and why you are doing it, and you do it so often, it no longer gets the benefit of the doubt. It either leads to the thread being locked or posts being deleted. Why would you repost a post that was deleted (though the original one was done in more taunting language)?
