46% is best case scenario?? It was higher when I made that post. It’s actually increased a bit on MC, though. Up to 55 now. What I meant was that the film wasn’t completely panned, some highbrow/notoriously tough critics actually like it which I wouldn’t have expected. Better to be divisive than met with a collective shrug imo. I’m watching now though and lol omg, Rami Malek is AWFUL in this. He’s never really bothered me before but I have no idea what he’s trying to do here. It’s hilarious. I saw a tweet about Malek being the weakest link of The Little Things earlier today, and it reminded me of the thread in the acting thread about Malek. I liked him before Bohemian Rhapsody, but I suspect that he’s going to wind up like Steve Carell among other actors that I used to like. I guess it’s because these actors become validated for some of their worst acting, imo, and they they just keep doing it even more because it got them positive for attention, awards, etc.

It feels like once he went super dark with Foxcatcher, he could never go back. The last traditional comedy he's done is Anchorman 2, and everything else he's been very dry and or sad sack. He even feels really super serious in something as inherently goofy sounding as Space Force.

Under ordinary circumstances, this would be a terrible opening (but in pandemic era, it's kinda great ), but The Little Things has scored the highest box office opening for an R-rated film at the US Box Office since the pandemic began, opening at #1, while simultaneously playing on HBO Max (no streaming data yet, but WB dropped a statement saying it went straight to #1 on the service, so they are probably pleased with how it's doing for them so far). Meanwhile, actor Michael Rappaport is freaked out by Denzel still being great in everything and in this movie, despite not being a big fan of The Little Things. Doesn't think another actor has been as great for as long.

Well, this movie had a great week..LOL - Largest Domestic Debut for an R-rated film since the beginning of the COVID Era - Shot up to #1 movie on HBO Max - Jared "How's the trunk space" Leto scored GG and SAG nominations for a character you typically try to avoid at the Home Depot

Roam if you want to... I'm happy for Leto. Not only did he give a terrific performance, but you can tell he's going to be stanning Denzel harder than even Ethan Hawke as the GOAT

Interesting..I wonder how Hancock can make the directing longlist, but it doesn't make it Best Picture longlist? Nice to see the film has that kind of respect from AACTA.

Maybe they docked the movie a few points for Rami Malek being miscast . But yeah, good to see the film getting some respect from AACTA. Hancock should be proud of this film, and as I said on the review thread, I can easily see this movie getting a comprehensive critical revaluation over the coming decade.

I was listening to the Indiewire: Screentalk podcast today with Erick Kohn and Anne Thompson and they were talking about Leto's success this week and Anne mentioned how since it came out on HBO Max alot of people saw it and I'm starting to think Leto might show up Oscar morning in Best Supporting Actor. When he did show up on the Golden Globes I along with everyone thought it was just the Globes being the Globes, but now that SAG picked him too..lol..its interesting. Alot of AMPAS voters are probably going to check The Little Things out now if they haven't already.

I didn’t hate Leto in this, but his nomination would be pretty awful considering his competition imo. I even think Boseman did more in Da 5 Bloods.
I don’t think he’s actually going to actually make it, though. BAFTA is bigger, with more Oscar overlap and are much more important as an Oscar precursor and Leto didn’t even make their longlist. Also, when it comes to lone noms, there’s usually indications of the industry or audiences taking to their film (solid Guild run, great audience scores) and I’m seeing neither here. There’s been no nominations whatsoever aside from Leto at GG and SAG.
I do think Leto gives off an actors actor sort of energy that his peers like and respect, so if the film had any support outside of what he’s managed, he’d probably have a decent shot of making it in.

If there was no COVID, I wouldn't surprised at all if the movie opened with like 30m or something.

David Poland defending Leto's performance from Film Twitter backlash over it's awards season nominations And Denzel is still getting probably the best performance reviews for the movie overall (though I hope Leto gets his Oscar nomination, if only to piss film twitter off )

Tom Reimann's review on Leto's performance delights me to no end.
