Yeah, I feel like if they really wanted to push this as an awards contender, they would've done well to just delay it. Even so, I think the industry might be prepared to spank WB for their shenanigans and you might see filmmakers who got screwed by their decision decline to campaign.

As I said, it feels way too late in the game to suddenly build this up as an awards thing (but WB is a mess and often don't seem to know what they have on their hands, so it's possible they whiffed on it's awards potential), but as a Washington fan, I'm very glad to hear he's using this film as an opportunity to turn in a what sounds like an interesting performance in his canon. World weary, stripped of his usual charisma and haunted sounds like he's putting in the work! Even if it doesn't become an awards thing, it sounds like the kind of performance that can help build the momentum for his inevitable third acting Oscar.

Interesting
We should be getting a trailer pretty soon.."Coming soon to HBO Max" and then put a 90s style trailer on it. Sounds like this would be a great precursor performance for The Tragedy of MacBeth.

And if McDormand doesn't win this year, she just has critical momentum on her side as well.

Sounds like Se7en from the description which is one of the most humorless major American films I've personally ever seen and I had Little Things pegged as a comedic at one point from the on-set photos .......so go figure.

I'm really looking forward to this! 3 Oscar winners as the leads and I guess you could say I'm a sucker for serial killer/mystery type films. Bring it on.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......... Jared Leto - "It’s a classic thriller with a surprise ending that’s filled with suspense and mystery. I think people will have a lot of fun watching Little Things. It takes you on a ride," Leto tells PEOPLE. "Working with two Oscar winners was a dream," he adds. "Denzel Washington is my Brando. He’s an absolute legend and a force of nature. Rami is remarkable. One of my favorite actors around and both were an absolute pleasure. people.com/movies/denzel-washington-rami-malek-jared-leto-the-little-things-first-look/

Is WB planning to campaign for this? It technically qualifies with that date, but I’ve heard nothing about a campaign or SAG submission, ect.

What Stephen said, I believe WB just hired a new head of Marketing to begin on their 2021 slate starting with The Little Things, so that's why you're starting to see promotional stuff for the film. They technically can try and get in this years race, but their so far behind not to mention alot of people in the industry are pissed off at them right now. Probably not worth the money right now.

I could see that, but they are qualifying, screening and hyping ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ to pundits. Category placements on that one were submitted to SAG as well. ‘Judas’ is in the same boat as this film in terms of the release date and the WB/HBO Max merger. So, I don’t know if it’s that they’re not bothering to push these films more than this possibly not being awards material, which is what I felt from the beginning. I’m going to guess that the actors are good and the film itself isn’t.

Judas And The Black Messiah was clearly concieved as awardsbait from the very beginning. It never screamed commercial hit. It couldn't really be anything else. Real life story, civil rights, low wattage "stars". And even so, WB has still kind of bungled it's campaign (maybe they'll recover, maybe they won't). They should have had this ready for Critics Awards and Festivals to maximise it's chances.
The Little Things has huge stars and a thriller/serial killer conciet. It's potential audience is massive. Even if it has awards potential in it's execution, you don't need to sell or market it as an awards film. It's one of those films you can sell in multiple different ways. In fact, I'd suggest WB in their current state are more interested as marketing it as a big prestige thriller worth signing up to HBO Max to watch. They need things that can help them increase their bottom line in this pandemic. The film probably has way more value to them on their slate for it's commercial value. Wheras the commercial value of Judas And The Black Messiah is inherently limited.
Basically apples and oranges. WB doesn't appear organised enough right now to make correct decisons about anything.

It's actually kind of backlash-proof (provided the film isn't bad) because imagine the rancor that a movie with such a potently prescient subject matter getting shut out because of its studio's shenanigans would get. Frankly, WB would be wise to put all of its chips on this film now and just keep quiet until next year's season, and maybe if they do something to ameliorate some of the frustrations in the meantime.

Nice. Looks... intriguing. You get a sense oif the story, but still feel a lot is being held back. Like that they didn't go too OTT to sell it, with the classy string score. But yeah, this is definitely being positioned to drive HBO Max subscriptions.

Hey, Brianna Barksdale and Frank Sobotka are in this, too? Neat.
I had to watch the first part of this trailer twice because I really couldn't understand what Denzel was saying at the beginning. Sounded like he was doing a late-career Jeff Bridges impression at first. But once I was able to catch what he was saying, I liked the trailer . . . but man, some of the line readings are weirdly off. "How's the trunk space?" should become a meme already.

This will make for a nice Sat night watch. Quite looking forward to it. WB fiasco aside, I’m not complaining about getting this content directly to my family room.

Hmmmmm.........I'll 2 two separate commentaries - the 2nd one is the real one, the first one is just me drinking from the poisoned well that has made this board mentally deficient in the last 6 weeks: #1 - Oh, obviously Denzel's 9th Oscar nod - surpassed everyone, ever - he's soooooooooooo f'n great - they should submit this to SAG immediately!! - of an eventual 13-20 Oscar nods obviously and the 5-12 he will obviously get at 66+ (um) - breezing past Nicholson!......his first BAFTA win too! ........and he smiled once in the trailer so that shows he can clearly do comedy so SUCK ON THAT pacinoyes. #2 - Looks and feels pretty good and very much like Se7en to me .......surprised to see Malek relegated mostly to the background here. The 2nd trailer will be interesting to see if it reveals more of the plot - the crosses/religious allegory was a neat wrinkle and obviously a big thing referenced visually and in dialog.....
