91% on RT with 119 reviews. The Batman solo film success streak continues.

I don't understand why WB dumped this in March instead of holding it until summer or fall. I mean I'm happy to see it sooner but it sounds like it could've been a genuine Oscar contender.

If it’s good enough, it’ll hold over. I’m actually okay with spreading event movies out, rather than cluttering up the summer.

I'd be shocked if it doesn't stick around for makeup at least, and who knows maybe goodwill for Greig Fraser's oscar win ( ) carries over to next season.

I see Wegner as his Lubezki to Mad Max

Interesting. I see Wegner as his Lubezki to Mad Max I think Wegner's his biggest competition for sure but I feel like the Academy usually defaults to the most obvious choices for cinematography (like going with Mank last year over Nomadland) and Dune is the most obvious this year. Big sci-fi epic with stunning VFX and huge sets feels like the kneejerk pick over a contemplative psychological western. Time will tell if that bears out but I think Fraser's the one to beat.

Interested to see the industry reaction. The reviews are strong, but have modulated a bit since this morning - 73% and 6.8/10 average with RT top critics, 73 on Metacritic are solid but not especially strong for the superhero genre - and I'm not sure the current appetite in the industry to laud over a 3-hour Batman movie.

Didn’t HBO Max recently announce an Arkham spinoff that would essentially be a horror series? They can find a place for Egghead there to start out

They should do a crossover with Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent where Nicolas Cage playing himself is the villain. Cage is capable of being scarier than anything in Batman when he gets his full Caginess going.

I think this is better than what ended up in the final film, but on the whole… I still don’t want Joker in the movie. I’m more burnt out on Joker than Batman. You have other villains. Use. Someone. Else.

At least until a third movie, after giving someone else the spotlight in the second. I just feel like Joker’s been so overexposed, and The Batman, up until that scene, proved Batman can survive without Joker being forced on us.

Keep the Joker locked away in Arkham for however many films Pattinson does, and in the last one, you can have him as the overarching villain, but until then, have him as the Lecter, who fucks with Batman's head and pushes him towards that dark abyss (and if you want to have it so that he was the "architect of all your pain" (tm Waltz's Blofeld) in the last film, go for it).
