Vice maybe but I can't see A Quiet Place scoring a bp nod. A screenplay nod and possible supporting actress nod but not bp. Bet against it at your own peril. It made killer bank at the box office, Blunt and Krasinski are vigorously campaigning, and it's probably got a few techs more or less secured for nods (Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, maybe even Visual Effects and Score; I could also see it getting a random Editing nod). Supporting Actress and Screenplay would be enough to justify its Picture contention. Definitely not Visual Effects since it didn't even make the bakeoff Top 10.

I don't see Crazy Rich Asians missing BP nom. It's scored every single precursor so far. Even SAG ensemble which a lot of the frontrunners missed (ASIB and The Favourite, for examples). Bridesmaids did the same thing though.

Bridesmaids did the same thing though. Yep. It should also be noted that Bridesmaids had enough strength to land 2 above-the-line nominations including an individual acting nod. McCarthy hit nearly every televised precursor (SAG, BAFTA, BFCA), and the screenplay also had its fair share of buzz (BAFTA, WGA). Still no BP nod. Crazy Rich Asians has had a similar performance so far (GG noms for Motion Picture and Actress, SAG Ensemble and PGA, all of which Bridesmaids also got), but it's not really a sure thing in any category. Unlike McCarthy, Yeoh is yet to show up anywhere, and between the two Favourite ladies, King, Adams, Robbie, Blunt, Foy and Kidman, the field is so dense that I don't know how likely she is to muscle her way into the BAFTA lineup. Adapted Screenplay might happen, I guess, but does it have enough pull to knock out one of the stronger contenders (BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, A Star is Born, If Beale Street Could Talk etc.)? Maybe at the WGA, with its eligibility rules, but for the Oscars I wouldn't have it in the top 5.

This is the most disgusting list of nominees I have ever seen. This has been such populist award season, only awarding films that have made mad money, regardless (and especially, in spite of) quality.
