This was quite the experience. It's probably among the bleakest and most nihilistic films I have ever seen, yet it never feels forced or artificial. The great cinematography, drags you into a world of misery and despair and forces you to feel the characters' anguish and suffering. But, throughout the film, there are scattered certain glimmers of hope, that give it some well needed sensitivity and humanity. The director Hu Bo commited suicide just after the completion of this film and it shows, as this is the work of a very troubled individual.
This is a difficult watch for sure, one that requires a lot of patience, and something that certainly won't appeal to a lot of people, but I think it is one of the year's best films and definitely a must watch for every film buff.

looks like the kind of misery porn i would have dug as a teen but idk if it offers much past that what u think I think it does. It's atmosphere is incredibely engrossing and it's bleakness feels genuine and personal, like a cry for help from a troubled soul. I certainly didn't find it nihilistic for the sake of being nihilistic. But it certainly isn't a film for everyone, so I can't say if you'll be a fan of it or not.

Title just makes me think this is an Andy Warhol piece where he just pointed the camera at an elephant sitting still for 6 hours.
