Cooper. I kid, I kid. Del Toro. But Cooper is hella winning the category this year, quote me on that. Roma will have to settle for Foreign Language Film + Cinematography.

not seen Roma yet but literally every one of the others is absolute dogshit; Inarritu is one of the worst prominent directors working right now

Yeesh, that's really jumping the gun on Cuarón. He's the frontrunner, yeah, but it's far from settled at this point.
Anyway, to rank the five: 1. Inarritu, Birdman 2. Cuarón, Roma 3. del Toro, The Shape of Water 4. Inarritu, The Revenant 5. Cuarón, Gravity
Inarritu for Birdman is really a head and shoulders above the rest, though, which is interesting as I'm generally not a huge fan of his.

Revenant in different world to the rest. Roma a distant runner up, Gravity in third.

Cuaron winning Director is far from a certain thing. I'm not even sure he is the favorite right now.
However I liked all of the films.
1. Gravity/Birdman 3. Roma 4. The Revenant 5. The Shape of Water

Cuaron upped the ante this year to me in a way - I don't see who could beat him unless The Favourite is more of a directorial feat than a screenplay one but we'll see - haven't seen it yet. Birdman is one that had a layer of wit to it though - it had, I guess the word is a certain "brio" to it - Roma and The Revenant are close maybe Roma doesn't have the pacing issues to me as much............Gravity was adept but technically only and........Sex With Fishsticks aka as Grinding Nemo aka Moby Dick-Me aka Passion Fish (um).........was well........ just because you can balance those elements doesn't mean you should.

They might be on a hell of a run but it is far from their best work ever.
I'd say Cuarón 2 is way ahead of everyone else, it didn't spoke to me immediately but is the one that left me thinking more and open to more discussions, still, wouldn't say is the masterwork most people think , then Birdman, plenty scenes I'd watch again and again ( the Stone-Norton duo ), many other find preposterous, toothless, etc, but nicely directed , then Revenant and his synthetic spiritual journey and twitter philosophy but again, many other things to admire, then Gravity, a.k.a the movie where nothing happens and fails in terms of stakes and suspense but every technical aspect is brillant and finally Shape of Water, breaks my heart, because he's my favourite of the trio, but really this is a movie about a lot of things but none at the same time and that's even worse, and it feels dead to me most of it's running time, however there are two scenes that are true stand outs and among the best of his filmography ( shower sex and black and white dance scene ), oh, and Shannon's character is nicely built, but too many other things felt off and just added to satisfy certain check-list, haha .
