I was around Boston in June it seemed they took a real liking to First Reformed there. My theater was full and the local NPR station couldn't stop raving about it.

I’ve always thought NSFC was third of the “Big 3” critics awards.

I’ve always thought NSFC was third of the “Big 3” critics awards. It is. I always get the two confused. But Boston's kinda borderline, considering they also have an online critics' base as well.

Can these fucking critics stop picking Regina King and Richard E. Grant. It makes the season dull. Roma too.

Wow was not expecting John C. Reilly to win. It’s a shame that they didn’t position his film better. He could’ve gotten in especially for a weak year like this.

Ethan Hawke is probably winning the trifecta (NSFC is all that’s left) and John David Washington is getting boosted by Blackkklansman being in the top 3 for BP.

He also has The Sisters Brothers, they should have played on his banner year. That was an enormous flop commercially. Though it wasn’t really one’s fault except Ellison who approved that ridiculous budget and release strategy. It doesn’t really help a narrative to be in a flop that made headlines for being one despite the good reviews.

It doesn’t really help a narrative to be in a flop that made headlines for being one despite the good reviews. It was a commercial flop, but a critical success (which won a major prize at Venice). Plus Reilly has a Will Ferrell comedy coming out at the end of the year (right around voting time). If that does well at the B.O., it could make up a lot of ground there. Like I say, don't sleep on him. There's a lot of race to be run and Stan & Ollie feels like BAFTA catnip. All the British bloc needs to do is come out in force for voting for him with the Academy.

Still don’t see him happen even IF he gets BAFTA nod. SPC isn’t really campaign for it all they seem to be doing is focusing on Glenn Close. Also the reviews for the film are good it doesn’t seem to be weighty enough. It seems to be like another Florence Foster Jenkins except Reilly is not Meryl Streep.

Mortensen's looking slightly wobbly (and it's unclear how Green Book will play over at BAFTA), Bale's character is extremely controversial and they don't seem to be big Bale-heads over there despite him being a hometown boy (and the continued review embargo makes me wonder) and I still don't know if BAFTA will like it. Imagine if Reilly gets momentum at the right time, because he's working the circuit like crazy, and he spoils for the Comedy Globe (which doesn't have a frontrunner right now; Bale and Mortensen seem like safe bets but it's the perfect spot for a surprise). I'm not predicting it, but stranger things have happened. Like I say, just keep an eye out.

I can see the AMPAS shutting out Bohemian Rhapsody.

I don't get why though. The film overperformed at the Globes and is doing fine with the critics awards.
