While the Golden Globes love might've seemed like its own separate thing, the SAG Ensemble nod clearly shows that the film has a pretty big fanbase in the industry. It has just crossed 600 mil worldwide (daym), it has a lot of passionate supporters and it's a rousing biopic - all the necessary ingredients to get a BP nomination. The critical reception was lukewarm but will it really matter with a film that generates such great amounts of love? The only thing standing in its way is Bryan Singer but the studio has probably struck up a pretty good contract with him since he's basically nowhere to be seen so as not to hinder the film's awards path.
So do you think it's getting the Best Picture nod? I'm convinced that it is. So far I'm predicting it for four nominations - Picture, Actor, Costume Design and Sound Mixing. I can also easily see it getting Editing or Makeup nods. What do you think?

At last we found a worse Best Picture nominee than Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. It will get Picture, Actor, Sound Mixing, Costume, and god only know what else.

I think it's in that range where it's not a secure bet, but there could be enough 5% passion for it that it sneaks in. The backlash is still out there but it hasn't harmed the box office, and even though Singer's involvement is still icky as hell, it's not like he's out there promoting it. PGA is a real possibility, but it's obviously not going to be a Director contender unless some really bizarre shit goes down, so I can't exactly pencil it in for a Top 5 spot just because of that.
I've got it as an alternate for now, if only because there's a lot of race to be run and the backlash could come back with a vengeance . . . but I am expecting Malek to hit all necessary precursors and get the nomination, and I think he might actually be the biggest thorn in Cooper's side, and I think it getting into Picture is a heavy likelihood.

You can't ignore it as a contender that is for sure. It will score BAFTA nod.

At this point, I hope so.
Just so we can hear "We are the Champions" when it wins.

I'm hoping not. If James Franco, who is super famous and all, got snubbed on the deadline's eve when his scandal broke out, I'd imagine the Academy wouldn't be so naive not to think of all the think-pieces will come out. But I gotta point out that the way the media has handled this movie is very bizarre: the supposed Esquire exposé that would end everything has never been published and everyone sort of just shut their eyes to Singer's obvious past.

Hell yeah, and part of me thinks this is a reason why Popular film should exist.
