Really? Black Panther for BP? I mean, I've only seen three of their ten BP nominees and I can already assure you Black Panther is far from their least deserving pick of the year. It's not even second to last. Take from that what you will.

I'm baffled by seeing some "ASIB sinks" posts in this thread. How on earth does it sink when it got 5 nominations in all the main categories in was supposed to hit - Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Song? Titanic's rolling in its water grave seeing all this 'sinking' nonsense. Yes, Elliott missed, big goddamn deal - a barely-10-minute performance which people just assumed was a lock was proven not to be one. And it missing Screenplay hardly seems like a problem to me either, especially considering that it's a fourth iteration of "A Star is Born". It didn't do a 100% sweep at the nominations but the movie still did wonderfully.
Some other thoughts:
- I thought about Rosamund Pike getting nominated for like two seconds the day before the nominations and then switched my inner prediction to Saoirse Ronan. Lesson is: never betray your gut.
- "A Quiet Place" getting a nod for its utterly forgettable Sicario ripoff of a score is stupid. Especially when "Beale Street" had to miss for it to get in (based on what I've heard it should've easily ended up here). Weird snub for "Beale Street" considering that the HFPA clearly responded to it.
- "Cold War" missing Foreign Film is ridiculous. I mean, obviously it's Cuaron's win but not even nominating the Pawlikowski movie is silly. But yeah, cute kids being poor is more in the Golden Globes lane, I suppose.
- Thrilled that "Eighth Grade" didn't get anything beside its best aspect - Elsie Fisher. And even that nod is too much.

Oh, and "First Reformed" not getting anything is indeed a travesty but I read in several trades that the HFPA apparently didn't respond to it so I wasn't surprised.

Not bad.
A Star is Born got a sizable amount of noms. I'm a bit surprised that Mary Poppin Returns didn't get a nom for song.
