Black Panther becomes the first superhero film to garner a Best Picture nomination at Golden Globes. *Correction* Black Panther becomes the first superhero film to garner a Best Picture (drama) nomination at Golden Globes. Previously Deadpool was nominated in the comedy/musical category.

They seem to not care for "A Star is Born" that much (screenplay also missed). No worries though. He'll get that overdue Oscar nom and I honestly think he can win.

Nod(s) you are the most happy about? And your most shocking snubs? 😁 Happy: - Blunt - Dafoe - H. Grant (should have been nominated for "Paddington 2" as well) surprised: - Emma Stone for "Maniac" (not that I care but thought they'd like it) - Ryan Gosling missing for "First Man" not happy: them snubbing legend Elliott. Also I had a low-key hope that they'd nominate Elizabeth Olsen for "Sorry for Your Loss". Ethan Hawke and Toni Collette snubs are not surprising, yet still annoying.

I'm happy they always remember at least one actor from Will & Grace.
Happy for "All The Stars" from Black Panther. I was doubting everyone would forget that song, but at least the GG's remembered! Best Original Song of the year for me!

Very predictable nominations, except for Pike and Hedges getting in instead of Colette and Hawke. Also, Cold War's snub... That's something I just wasn't prepared for...

Some thoughts: --Ethan Hawke missing is just egregious. Better not hurt his Oscar chances, because he's been on a roll. --Ditto for Collette. She has way more competition in her field though, so that one was less surprising. -- Bohemian Rhapsody in Best Drama? Seriously? Eh. -- First Reformed and Eighth Grade were horribly snubbed in their respective Best Picture fields. I guess the Globes just weren't taking to A24 stuff as much as other circles have been -- only one (very deserved) nomination for Fisher. Again, hope this doesn't reflect what the rest of the season has in-store. --I 100% called that weird Director line-up in my predictions --Sam Rockwell? That came outta nowhere. I mean, I'll take an Elliott snub (he was one of my favorite things about ASIB, if not my favorite thing about it, but I find most of the awards buzz he's getting to be kinda absurd), but I was not expecting that... so boring that two of our supporting actor nominees are literally the last two Oscar-winners in the category (though Ali is deserved). --Happy for the (somewhat surprising) nominations for Dafoe, Kidman, Theron, and Pike, though I haven't seen any of those performances yet. --HFPA's rule about not nominating foreign language stuff in another Best Picture category is fucking stupid. That Roma isn't in their Best Drama field is just awkward. That Screenplay nomination is kinda big, though. --I genuinely do not remember either Black Panther or A Quiet Place having a score. Absolutely shocked to see Britell snubbed there, his is probably the most acclaimed score of the year and he's my current prediction for the Oscars, so his absence is weird. --No Mary Poppins in Original Song? Hmm... --And yeah, HFPA tends to pull some weird shit with their Foreign Language category. Wouldn't place too much stock in them snubbing Cold War and Burning. That's all I got. All in all a pretty underwhelming group of nominees, but I'll still be glued to the TV like an idiot on the night of January 6th.

Some thoughts:
Love that Elsie Fisher got nominated for Eighth Grade. That movie picking up as much as recognition as it has is genuinely one of the more delightful things about the current awards shows. Though I do wish it got a nomination in the best drama category.
Still can't believe that Peter Farrelly is going to be an Oscar nominee. What a weird timeline we live in.
Vice ain't dead, and neither is Bale.
Sam Elliott being snubbed is genuinely shocking especially with all of A Star is Born love. Guess that means that Richard E. Grant's winning an Oscar. I'm not disappointed since he was fantastic in Can You Ever Forgive Me. Gosling couldn't get nominated. Just as we expected, First Man is well gone. The only reason that Foy got a nomination at all is because supporting actress is so barren this year.
Mary Poppins Returns not getting a best song nomination is both strange and a load of bullshit if I ever saw it.
Hello best picture nominee Black Panther.

Absolutely shocked to see Britell snubbed there, his is probably the most acclaimed score of the year and he's my current prediction for the Oscars, so his absence is weird. I agree with you about A Quiet Place. I remember the film being a very intense experience mainly because of the sound and sound effects, but as hardly as I try, I can't remember its score. I feel like it's stealing that spot from Hereditary, which would have been a much deserving nominee. Also, when you mention Britell are you referring to his score of If Beale Street Coud Talk or the one from Vice?

The Screenplay snub for A Star Is Born is even worse than I expected, stats-wise.
Since 1990, only three movies that were snubbed for Best Screenplay at the Globes went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars:
1. Gladiator: a blockbuster, effects-driven movie set in Ancient Rome; 2. The Lord of The Rings - The Return of The King: a blockbuster, effects-driven fantasy movie, whose previous films were snubbed too; 3. Million Dollar Baby: which is the precedent A Star Is Born is hoping to repeat.
