Haven't seen '93 or '08, but the others are pretty terrific. I'd vote for '78, personally.

Never seen the 93 one, thought the 07 one was terrible, the 56 one is spoiled by what they did to the ending, but even if they hadn't done that it's still not on the level of the 78 one.

56 and 78 are both great, but I prefer the former. Haven't seen the other two... plan on watching the 93 version fairly soon. I'll get around to 07 eventually.
