Oh honeys, am I the only one watching again?
Season 8: Apocalypse started with a bang! The first fifteen minutes are thrilling. The rest was a bit bizarre, including the appearance of an almost prehistoric Joan Collins... playing... well a glammed up Joan Collins, fossilized in her Dynasty persona... For the life of me, I don't no why they are dressing in that way... maybe it will be revealed in a future episode.
Did anyone else watch? Anyone?

I'm all caught up with the episodes this week and I agree. This season is off to an interesting start with a little sci-fi horror. I like how the premise will deal with a dystopian aftermath and some frictions among the rich and underprivileged. The cast seems a bit fun and I also gathered some instant Murder House and Coven throwbacks too. I've heard long rumors of this season supposedly being a crossover of both Murder House and Coven before. So I'm certainly anticipating for more bigger connections to take place from there. I found Joan Collins a bit entertaining for what she have to provide this season.

I've only seen episode one sweetie, and I really don't know what to think. Some Horror Story seasons have started great and fallen apart (Coven, Murder House), whereas other have started terrible and got excellent (Cult). This doesn't really fit with any prior season, as it just started out decent, and American Horror Story, even down to individual episodes is rarely just decent, it's typically full throttle fantastic, or a heap of shit. So from that point of view they have peaked my interest. Things I loved from Episode 1:
Mary Cherry...I mean Leslie Grossman. I honestly love this lady. She could read a pamphlet on mortgage interest fluctuations, and I'd find it funny. She should be a damn superstar. Adina Porter in another big role...happy days. Kathy Bates dynamite hair cut. Joan Collins just being what I imagine Joan Collins to be (as I often spend hours every day sitting around imagining what Joan Collins is like ) That they didn't piss about, and just introduced Michael Langdon immediately. Kyle Allen...what a dish. Things I didn't like from Episode 1:Sarah Paulson was bad....right? I'm not alone on that. The laughable hair and makeup they've decided to do with Michael Langdon. The ludicrous halloween level disney costumes they all seem to be in.

So episode two was a fairly abysmal.
Honestly, Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates are giving some of of the worst stuff I've seen from either of them. The 'plot' is so horrible it should be laughable, but unfortunately it doesn't even have that going for it. Adina Porter is being completely wasted, and Michael Langdon is the worst Antichrist or whatever he's meant to be, since...I have nowhere to go here, he's just the worst. I also couldn't care less about whatever Disney channel crap they have going on with those other two lovebirds whose names I haven't even established. No level of attractive can fix that amount of dull.
Thankfully Alexis and Mary Cherry brought a little life to this shitpile, and Evan Peters squealing out gay heroes while he was whipped was mildly amusing.

Kudos has to go to Cody Fern, whose American accent is flawless. I'm not sure that I've heard a more perfect one from an Aussie actor - two of my Australian friends didn't even realize that he was Aussie!

So after a decent opener and a laughably atrocious second episode, the third episode just about pulled this Season out the mire, and then my least favourite actress in the world, Emma Roberts showed up. Sure I knew it was coming, but I still wanted to throw up all the same. Perhaps they have one of those apples left over for me.
Positives: Mary Cherry isn't dead, and Kathy Bates wasn't shit like in the first two episodes. Honestly, she should have her Oscar revoked for those.
Negatives: The aforementioned abomination. Also, the horrendous scene with Cody Fern, with the cutting and the snakes and stuff. Appallingly bad television, even by this shows sometimes appalling standards. If that turns out to be the worst two minutes of television poor Cody Fern is involved in, he should consider himself very unlucky.

The last episode was one of the worst episodes in the entire series. They fucking retconned Murder House in one of the laziest ways possible. Now look, I’m a fan of a good redemption arc but they didn’t even try. They just threw in a quick conversation about how it’s the house that made Tate evil. He’s actually a good guy who doesn’t actually have to atone for anything. All for some cheap fan service bullshit. The nice thing about American Horror Story was that due to its anthology format, even if I dislike a season, it still has the other seasons to enjoy. Not anymore. They ruined Murder House. All of Tate’s complexity has been reduced to “The evil house made him do it.” Not made by me but this meme sums up my issue with the end of the episode pretty well. imgur.com/a/7oqxn8r

How is it that Murder House and even the graveyard where Moira's mother was buried look exactly the same as they did before the explosion? How is there a working real estate agent in LA?

The last few episodes are all meant to be set before the nuclear explosion. Admittedly, having a multi-episode flashback sequence is kinda a weird way to tell your story but I’ll see how it plays out.

but it has some funny moments (this conversation between that horrid black gay Witch and Dylan Mcdermoot crack me up: Sorry I'm so busy! you're dead what do you have to do? I got to look out the window and cry while masturbate, It's My daily thing ) Obviously I liked this episode a lot less than most people but I do agree that Dylan McDermott was hysterical in the last episode. Those scenes are ones I’d be happy to rewatch.

So, episode four was pretty good, and following on from a mostly decent third episode, I finally have some hope for this season. I honestly think Myrtle Snow and James March are my favourite American Horror Story characters, so I guess I was bound to be on board for their returns. Also, Sidibe was a welcome presence too. I'll even give Emma Roberts her due for not ruining the episode, even if her hell was a sort of knock off of Terri Schuester from Glee's actual job.

Oh honey, Jessica Lange!!!
I'm still loving it, especially the scene with the pills & liquor and Dylan McDermott's fancy line in pastimes...

What if the entire rest of the season is flashbacks and we never actually return to the post-Apocalypse story?

I despair with the TV world of Ryan Murphy some times. Ignoring the anomalies that are Asylum, OJ and Glee S1, his shows are just a festival of the erratic in terms of quality.
Apocalypse, much like Cult, started out dreadful, and I mean Freakshow level dreadful, but episodes 4 & 5 were both very good. Fingers crossed that Apocalypse like Cult carries on being very good right through to the end.
Also, Mary Cherry the gluten detector is possibly the funniest thing on TV this year.

What if the entire rest of the season is flashbacks and we never actually return to the post-Apocalypse story? I'm only up to episode 5, but based on the rise in quality since the three witches arrived and the show went into flashback mode, I would be more than happy with it to not return to the present until some point in the finale. Aside from the lack of Adina Porter, I'm loving all the flashbacks.

Damn...episode 6 was fantastic. I see the opinions above are divisive, but I thought it was among the very best non Asylum stuff this show has done. I have no issue with the laziness of some of the stuff they did with Tate and the evilness in the house. Honestly, as far as stupidity and leaps on logic in the history of American Horror Story go, that was minor league. Jessica Lange was great, as she typically is when playing Constance, but Dylan McDermott stole the show.

Oh honeys, it is all over the place with characters from previous AHS popping up all over the show (Papa Legba!) but at least it is entertaining.
I've not been bored once yet.

Episode 8 is a little bit better and very satanic! thanks to the supporting performances, Sansom Harris, Bernhardt, evan peter and that sono bono lookalike that steals the show She's terrific (sex with Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds!). If you've seen Frasier, you'll know her as Frasier's scheming agent Bebe Glasier. The episode where she negotiates Frasier's contract is an absolute hoot.

This season is on a real run of quality now from episodes 4 - 7. It's still dumb as hell, but at least it's now entertaining and dumb as hell, instead of shit and dumb as hell like episodes 1 - 3.
