it's not so pretentious and preachy like most Hitchcock's movies.

Okay, Gittens, please explain to me how most Hitchcock's movies are either pretentious or preachy.

Uh, I'll just overlook that bizarre comment on Hitchcock and add my thoughts on the film itself - very strong first half, somewhat weak second half that kind of meanders and ends up feeling anticlimactic (and not in a good way). I give it a 7.

Too many things wrong with the OP for me to give this a real reply.

What I do agree with from what you wrote is that Ray Milland is great in it. I got a kick out of watching his guilt-ridden face.

The soundtrack of the movie also played a very important part to create the atmosphere in the movie.

This is a classy production, and Ray Milland is much more interesting to watch here than in The Lost Weekend, which was a bit of a snore for me.

The soundtrack of the movie also played a very important part to create the atmosphere in the movie. Tiomkin's soundtrack for Dial M. For Murder. It's got a lot of melody as well as atmosphere. Before he met Herrmann, Hitchcock were actually scored by a variety of studio chosen composers like Tiomkin, Waxman, Rosza etc.. Interesting to note.

Great film. The sequence where Grace Kelly's character is being put on trial in her mind is superb filmmaker.
The film was also shot in 3D, and there are definitely where you can tell that.
Also Ray there are very few Hitchcock films I would call "preachy".

I think it is, I don't know how to call it exactl, one of Hitchcocks most average films. Though I think it's a good movie. But I find nothing special about this movie. The original idea of the plot is nice. But somehow it fails to create as much suspense for me as other films of Hitch. It's just a fine litte movie, but I'd not rank it among his best works.

It's a wonderful film, and one thing that is tribute to its power is that it is essentially almost a one set film, and yet it rarely feels stagy. Exceptional.

I'm not a fan, the first 45 minutes are way too slow and inserts all kind of melodramatic props in order to maintain a certain rhythm and while the second half is very much in Hitchcock's wheelhouse in terms of construction the plot becomes overly elaborated/complicated ( the whole keys thing was too convoluted ) especially in the crucial scenes and just doesn't maintain momentum.
Plus, I didn't believe for a second Grace Kelly losing her head for Robert Cummings, he was so steril in the film
