I just finished binging this. Always funny and charming with some clever mysteries, and that whole cast is superb. Tony Shalhoub is magnificent, though I’m actually a little disappointed that Traylor Howard, Bitty Schram, and Jason Grey-Stanford never really did anything substantial after the show ended (although he’s gotten some bit parts here and there). It also had some pretty heavy emotional moments (the episode with the little kid hit me hard) without ever feeling manipulative or forced. Anybody else ever watch this?

I really dug it, but Psych was even better.
Also, how you not gonna mention Ted Levine or John Turturro?

I really dug it, but Psych was even better. Also, how you not gonna mention Ted Levine or John Turturro? They were excellent too. Turturro’s first episode really had some emotion to it. And I thought it was interesting when I first saw this and saw Levine was Stottlemeyer because I’d only ever known him as Buffalo Bill, but he’s lovable as the captain. And yeah, I prefer Psych too. That one might be one of my all time faves. Not sure just yet if I’d include Monk in there.

Loved the show and in particular how easy it was to watch and enjoy and then the cumulative effect of the shows emotionally caught up later - it's a sneaky show that has a light touch. Also loved the theme song.......
Monk is the comic flipside of my beloved (and serious to a fault) Robert Goren character in L&O: Criminal Intent - the shows emerged at the same time too - and each are basically elements of Columbo crossed with elements of Sherlock Holmes and psychoanalysis (lol) but for obviously different purposes.

This was one of the rare TV shows I liked and watched. Loved the character and Tony Shalhoub was just magnificent. The show had so much charme and was just very funny. Not quite as good as Columbo, but still very good.
