Not sure about nods but.........in the other thread "Best Actor/Actress Across All 3 Mediums" - she comes as close as you can really to being the Olivier for females and her film career was more or less held back too for a large part of it.
At the 10 minutes mark of this astounding documentary about stage acting, listen to what Pacino says about her - and it applies to her film acting too. Think to yourself how rarely you see anything even remotely close to this on film - we always talk BS about acting, safe or God forbid "consistent" performances we think we are owed so we can then call an actor or actress "great".
This is precisely the highest praise an actor can get: at 10:00 minutes, about Vanessa Redgrave:

not the biggest Redgrave fan. Just two nominations so far.
1985: Lead Actress - Wetherby 1987: Supporting Actress - Prick Up Your Ears
she comes close for Mary, Queen of Scots (my personal favorite of hers but 1971 was a crazy competitive year) and Howards End, and she's currently my #7 for Julia and Blow-Up.

GOAT '66: Lead Actress - Morgan! (#3 behind Hartman, then Okada.) Probably will be gone once I see 5+ more performances this year I'm anticipating. Loaded year. '68: Lead Actress - Isadora (win)'68: Supporting Actress - The Sea Gull (win)'71: Lead Actress - Mary, Queen of Scots (#3 behind Christie, then Jackson) '77: Supporting Actress - Julia (#2 behind Ullmann) '80: Lead Actress - Playing for Time (win)'92: Supporting Actress - Howard's End (#2 or 3 behind Stowe and maybe Tomei) '93: Supporting Actress - Children of the Mist (#2 or 3 behind Ryder and maybe Ricci) '94: Supporting Actress - Little Odessa (a maybe, though #5 behind Dunst, Leigh, Wong, and Mirren) Certainly GOAT. Can't wait to watch The Seagull. 1971: The Devils 1977: Julia 1979: Agatha (WIN) 1980: Playing for Time (WIN) 1984: The Bostonians 1985: Wetherby 1992: Howards End 2011: Coriolanus

I'd also like to mention The Trojan Women as well where she has the scene where her son is to be taken from her that is positively breathtaking - she has an uncanny highlight real with stuff like that.

I've barely seen her in anything but have been impressed what I've seen her in (Nip/Tuck, Atonement, Foxcatcher, Mission: Impossible) and want to check out more of her filmography.
What are her must see performances?

What are her must see performances? Howards End and Mary, Queen of Scots are my two favorites, but those are must-sees for sooo many other reasons.

I wanted to mention her new film - apparently not very good The Aspern Papers which features her daughter Joely Richardson is out this weekend in some markets. It will be nice to see them - sometimes we forget the quality of the film isn't the point really - you can learn and appreciate things in a very bad film too (haven't seen it myself). At her age, each appearance could be a last, and each should be appreciated. It's a good way to think about film and TV - Redgrave, Mirren, Dench, Jackson, Smith......when it ends, it ends and when you think about how much time you waste (heck just on here, lol) I always enjoy spending some time with them - quality of the film regardless. Here's an interview as well. www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-ca-mn-imdb-files-vanessa-redgrave-20190102-story.html

'68: Lead Actress - Isadora (WIN) '68: Supporting Actress - The Sea Gull (behind Fonda. I don't know past that) '71: Lead Actress - Mary, Queen of Scots (WIN) '74: Supporting Actress - Murder on the Orient Express (#4 behind Stole, Black, and Kahn. And probably Shire at #5) '77: Supporting Actress - Julia (#2 behind probably just Ullmann) '80: Lead Actress - Playing for Time (behind probably just Rowlands) '87: Supporting Actress - Prick Up Your Ears (WIN.... but very very weak category) '92: Supporting Actress - Howard's End (#3 or 4 behind Stowe, Tomei, and Richardson) '94: Supporting Actress - Little Odessa (#5 behind Dunst, Leigh, Wong, and Mirren)

I still nominate her for Prick Up Your Ears but not for Wetherby anymore (that's a tough year, I think she's like my #7 or #8), but now I also nominate her for Morgan! (1966) and I bumped her up into my top five for Julia (1977). Mary, Queen of Scots is still my favorite performance of hers but '71 was a ridiculously crowded year and she barley makes the top 10. If the movie had come out a year earlier it'd be a whole other story...
