I'm definitely curious about it based on reports that have said it's supposed to play like a silent film in parts. Even though it's from the same author of Hugo, I'm not entirely sold on the premise, which on paper sounds kind of treacly and contrived with its interwoven narrative strands. It sounds like something that might work well as children's fiction but might not translate well on screen. I know it's still very early, we know very little about the project so far, and there's not even a trailer yet, but for some reason I'm getting Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close vibes from this. Haynes isn't infallible. Obviously, I could be totally wrong and it might end up being a huge Oscar player like Hugo was. I'm just a little skeptical at this point and am not as confident in it as some people are (not yet at least).

So it's unreasonable to think that this project isn't an obvious slam dunk? there is reasonable doubts and then theres calling this film a potential extremely loud Only in the sense that it's sentimental source material about children adapted by a respected director and has the potential to fail (maybe not to the extent of Extremely Loud... didn't mean it as a one-to-one comparison). Just going by the synopsis on Wikipedia, the premise strikes me as something that could easily be failed Oscar bait. There are certain plot points (even read without full context) where I have no idea how they could be handled without seeming absolutely cringeworthy onscreen unless the source material is significantly altered in some way. Hugo did very well, sure, but this just doesn't sound to me like a project that can lead to a similar level of success. It might be something audiences will like since it sounds like a "crowdpleaser," but I have a harder time seeing critics embracing it completely. Again, I could be dead wrong. It will be interesting to see how Haynes handles this material.

Haynes doesnt make Oscar bait (his biggest criticism is that he's too cold), and the book is a crowdpleaser but far from begging for awards It'll be his most accessible movie, but you don't film half a movie in experimental black and white silence if you're aiming for Oscars
