With festival season upon us, predict the highly anticipated awards film that turns out to be a bust or doesn't live up to expectations.
I'm going with First Man. There's high hopes after Chazelle's first two films, but this looks pretty generic.

I don't think First Man will bomb critically or anything, but yeah I don't see it getting the rapturous reception of his last two films...

Mary Queen Of Scots will bomb hard.Margot might get a nomination but Saoirse will miss out.If Beale Street Could talk has had surprisingly little buzz too.

A Star Is Born
At least I hope so.

Mary Queen of Scots The Favourite Beautiful Boy
...And probably a handful more, at least. A Star is Born looks bad and could very well be one but I have a feeling it's gonna be super well-received and go on to do very well at the Globes, if not the Oscars as well. Ditto for Bohemian Rhapsody.

A Star Is Born has a lot of hype going on right now, but I think it can be backfire by going too big too soon and receive a lot of backlash before the season has even started. Also, it's a movie with Lady Gaga and directed by Bradley Cooper - a lot of people are rooting against it. If the initial praise is too over-the-top or if its embraced by people considered "basics", ASIB can kiss goodbye to everyone else taking it seriously.
MQOS and Bohemian Rhapsody look like straight-up bombs.

Widows. Feels like one of those wtf movies that's kinda there but I have a hard time acknowledging is actually going to be around. I predict it'll get about 48-68 on RT.

I don't think Widows or The Sisters Brothers are going anywhere, but then again not a lot of people are expecting them to.
Mary Queen of Scots could underwhelm too, but between Saoirse and the techs (costumes/set design/makeup) I don't think it'll get shut out, even if it turns out not to be a runaway acting frontrunner like we expected before the trailer dropped.
