Okay, I can't guarantee that it's actually going to happen, but if it DOES happen, I'll still buy the trilogy as soon as possible.
If I'm being honest, I'm one of those people who don't hate Special Edition, but attempting to hide unaltered edition of the original trilogy was a huge mistake that George Lucas has made.

This sounds like a long shot, but if they could actually release it, that'd be great. I've been waiting to see the original cut of SW on a good print since like forever.

Why not? In May, it will be the 40th anniversary since the very first Star Wars was released.

Seriously, Lucas should've been aware that if he was going to release alternate editions, he should've let original versions available.

That's good. I picked up the original cuts on VHS at Goodwill last year just to see them and my VCR ate ROTJ.

I don't know if we can call it a mistake or not from Lucas point of view, the guy hated that movie the way he talk about it, because it was so different than what he imagined in is head before filming that it hurt to see it, he hated it less with the modification (because it is closer to what he imagine was is original vision), so he didn't wanted people to see the original version.
There is a historical argument to be made than one of the biggest cultural phenomenon of all time should be available to see for the humanity and preserved overtime if it is not too complicated, but there is also the artist vision and point of view to take into account. Anyway for him, it is purely something that goes down to taste, not being right or wrong I would say.
