Since the Academy has not given any criteria for the category, I'm gonna just define "popular film" as films that grossed at least $100 million domestically by the time nominations rolled around.
2010: Inception 2011: The Help 2012: No idea. Argo won BP but I doubt they'd want the same film winning both categories, so I guess Lincoln? 2013: Gravity 2014: Interstellar 2015: Mad Max: Fury Road 2016: I sincerely have no clue. Deadpool since it got a PGA nom? Zootopia since it won in animation? 2017: Get Out
