all respect to Tarkovsky, but Kubrick's films don't put me to sleep.

I'd consider Tarkovsky for the top five directors ever, but Kubrick is pretty much tied with the guy in my avatar as my favorite director.

Stalker might be the best film of those both directors combined work (though it could also be Paths of Glory, not sure which I prefer), but aside from this masterpiece Solaris is Tarkovsky's only other good film in my eyes, while there are some strong entrys in Kubrick's filmography. So Kubrick.

I missed this poll. Obviously Kubrick is more versatile but i can't say that he is more talented than Tarkovsky.

So Kubrick. Have you seen Andrei Rublev? Yes and sadly I didn't like it. I'm usually not bothered by long films, but that one felt waaay to long for me and halfway through I completely lost my interest in it. I've also seen Ivan's Childhood, which I would call quite good though (so you could say this contradicts my initial post). I didn't like The Mirror at all though.
