It’s been nice to have since it works at my local place, and my nearest AMC is pretty out of my way. But more and more, AMC’s A-List service sounds more appealing to me.

well that was predictably short-lived

We all knew that would happen.

Yup, at a point it's just squeezing as much out of them as possible

Eh, I've had mine for almost a year and have saved a shitload of money. If this is the end, they had a good run at that price point.
also, they aren't letting anyone see Fallout this weekend... lol.

It still mostly works for me but I am preparing for the end. Ever since I had to take pics of my stubs to verify, I began to realize they really were too good to be true.

My local place doesn’t even USE ticket stubs. They use register paper that’s ticket and receipt, and the app freezes every time I’ve scanned it in because they can’t work around that. I’ve had to give them a reason why I don’t have a stub so many times, and because they don’t get back to me, and I can’t get that through their thick fucking skulls, I always worry if my card could be deactivated because of it.

this is one of those ideas that should have stayed on paper. I never understood how they were ever going to make money with business plan or ever how they would pay their bills.

The plan was to get enough sponsors to support it after they had a customer base... but the sheer cost was always too ridiculous for that.

Just got this by email. MoviePass hears your concerns.
So now they not only block new releases, they can cherry pick which showtimes you can actually attend.

So they’ve lowered subscription prices to 9.95 again. But now you can only see three movies a month. And after that, you can get a discount of up to $5 (wording’s murky, though).
But they still haven’t cleared up the new releases issue. They’re implying that you can go see new movies like Fallout that aren’t blocked out, but it’s so nondescript. All they say is it will give you access to “First-run releases from many major studios,” but first-run doesn’t tell us anything. It could be a movie that’s still playing four weeks later. It doesn’t mean opening weekend. Their wording cleared up nothing.
Changes apply on August 15th. A-List is looking juicier.

They are so fucked up right now. So many things are grayed out and I'm getting options for 3 am showtimes (which apparently they put there for someone to click on and get their account terminated). I went to see Eighth Grade yesterday and had to pay out of pocket because once I showed up to the theater every single movie/showtime vanished.
If they can get their shit together, 3 movies a month for $9.95 is still a damn good deal... we'll see. I don't live very close to an AMC so I'm probably fucked.

Yeah same shit happened to me when I went to watch Spy Who Dumped Me on Saturday. No shows were available despite it still being 6:30, and I had to use a Fandango gift card to buy a ticket. That might honestly be the final straw for me. I’m not about to roll the dice just for a showtime. A-List, here I come.

Uninspired, sure, but McKinnon mostly saves it from being unfunny.

I’m loving the Stubs system way more. It’s only real hindrance is that because of where I am, I have to see all three weekly movies in one day, and so it kind of burns me out and gives me whiplash sometimes (jumping from Boy Erased to Ralph Breaks the Internet is not seamless). But it’s benefits are still great for me.
Anyway, tomorrow is the very last day of my MoviePass subscription, and I get to finish with... Robin Hood. How fulfilling.

I'm actually keeping both for now. I have three Landmark theaters w/i 5 miles of me and I get every indie/doc that comes there that might not even hit an AMC
