Which film about obsessed young artists driven by controlling teachers do you prefer?
I think both are supremely effective, intense pieces of filmmaking that are hard to shake, resulting in multiple viewings. However, despite being newer to the game, I think Chazelle is the more skilled, potent talent, and Whiplash is slightly sharper and more precise than Black Swan.
Black Swan - 9/10 Whiplash - 9.5/10

I know Aronofsky is not popular here but it's "Black Swan" which left a bigger impression on me.

Both are overrated as shit but Whiplash is at least a decent film.

It's Black Swan, by every possible metric.

I'm not a huge fan of either and I would describe both as overcooked, but Whiplash moreso. Black Swan at least doesn't seem to take itself as seriously.

definitely Black Swan. Whiplash is a solid film but doesn't pack the punch that Black Swan has . Plus Black Swan featured Portman & Kunis making out so it wins easily.

Black Swan is an appalling film, so not that one.

They're almost equal, Black Swan is one of my all time favorite films but Whiplash tops it by leaving me absolutely breathless and giving me the most intense cinematic experience ever.
Whiplash - 10/10 Black Swan - 10/10

Whiplash stayed with me a lot more. Black Swan was exhilarating to watch, but didn't leave much of a lasting impression.
