Of these lovely, talented, underrated ladies, who's your personal favorite? Your favorite performance from each?

Hmmm... in general:
1. Patricia Clarkson (although I am thoroughly disliking her in Sharp Objects) 2. Joan Allen 3. Laura Linney
In terms of ranking their best performances:
1. Patricia Clarkson, Dogville 2. Laura Linney, John Adams 3. Joan Allen, The Crucible

Ok... here's what I think:
1. Linney - That defining work in You Can Count On Me sets her apart, but there are definitely other good stuff in her filmography. And she's a very strong TV actress. Based on You Can Count On Me, it lifts her above Allen. Without it, Allen would definitely be first. She can be the closest metapod to Streep, I feel. And not saying that as a bad thing, as I'm reminded of Streep watching her in Nocturnal Animals. Nowhere near a great performance, but it's entertaining - like something Streep would do in the last 10-12ish years.
2. Allen - She has like 4 performances about the same level, but none of them easily topping her clear best. And she works much less, and don't remember her doing a whole lot since The Upside of Anger. She needs to work more, but I do admit I need to rewatch The Upside of Anger which I will do very shortly.
3. Clarkson - I think she's good, but she's not comparable to the other two. There's something dragging her down. That old hippie chick look making me think she was clearly a hippie in the 60s. And her voice is a little bit more inaccessible than the other two. Not that she's bad, just never sent me through the moon or anything. I admit her work in Far From Heaven had some soulfulness to it, though nowhere near as much as Julianne Moore. I think mostly she's just generally not properly cast. She should've played Chastain or Spacek's role in The Help. She would've been better than Spacek. She has that old Southern thing more than Spacek. Also, I can buy her as a racist. Also, should cast her as some drugged or stoned character or a bisexual. I think she would've been better in both Moore's and Bening's parts in The Kids Are Alright. And she probably deserves most of Julianne Moore's roles.... except Far From Heaven. She has a degree of realism to her, I think it's just a matter of showing it, and until she does.... I'd have to keep her in this spot because I feel the works of the other two are stronger.

That is so hard. Clarkson and Linney are two of my absolute favourite actresses and both of them have this presence, which can light up a screen like few others. I'm voting for Clarkson, as if you gave Dogville and Easy A a back to batch watch, her diversity is just brilliant.
I like Joan Allen a lot, but she isn't a favourite in comparison to the other two ladies.

I'm a YUGE Patty and Joan fan. Hate to pick between them. Faves from each would probably beeeeeeeeeeeeee, well... I can't really pick. Might go Crucible or Pleasantville for Joan, but Clarkson I really can't single one out. I loved her in Lars and the Real Girl. Maybe that.
Borer Linney I don't really like, but she's had a couple good ones - Big C, John Adams, Savages. Liked those three a lot, and Truman Show to a lesser extent.

Unsurprising but still wrong that Allen is last considering she's the best out the three. Then Clarkson, then Linney. All three at sublime, though. I just think Allen has shown the most depth.
Best performances would be Pleasantville, Dogville/The Station Agent, and You Can Count on Me, respectively.

Clarkson - Lars and The Real Girl Linney - The Savages Allen - Pleasantville (John Adams was close, though, she's terrific in it)
All three are very talented actresses, that I'm a fan of.

all three are great... but: 1. Allen (The Upside of Anger) 2. Linney (You Can Count on Me) 3. Clarkson (The Station Agent) wtf is Joan Allen doing lately btw? She was the MVP of Room and great on that crap show The Family... but hasn't done anything since.

Well, I don't know how I'd compare them but Linney I just mentioned in the stage/screen/TV thread and she's in a position to distance herself - she has 4 Emmy's, 4 Tony nods (and she'll go back) and 3 Oscar nods. I mean that sort of describes Allen too and she's won a Tony but Linney seems like she's more in the game now.
I think Ozark is going to be a very big deal in season 2 - like people caught onto it late - and I don't know if she'll get nominated for it tomorrow (for Season 1) but she was stupendous - I mean that show is hardly realistic (that is sort of the fun of it though) but she grounds the show completely. Like I can't think of a single actress who could have played that role and been coherent and real - her boring qualities are a huge plus there.
