pacinoyes - As I already mentioned elsewhere, even if somehow Dems were able to codify it, no doubt this Supreme Court would nullify it... It seems it could be another 50 years before abortion rights are restored in this country.

So does anyone think all of this is to curb population shrinkage? I didn't realize there was a population shortage? But yes, apparently. They want to make sure to keep stocked up. It's literally The Handmaid's Tale.

Adoption already has a huge waiting list and white parents aren't adopting black and brown babies what the hell is she even talking about. She wants to flood an already flooded and broken system. These people are so stupid.

These people are so stupid. Amy Looney Barrett also thinks that abandoning a baby at a fire station is preferable to safely ending a pregnancy early on. These people are insane.

I think I read that Japan reported decrease in population for the first time. Aging population + declining birth rates = very bad news in terms of economy, society in general etc. We don’t have a population shortage right now but we do have the declining birth rates. In terms of an aging population, the US is actually better off than a lot of other developed countries. Japan is the one who’s worst off in terms of these demographic issues. Over a quarter (I think closer to a third, but can’t remember off the top of my head) of the population is senior citizen age and birth rates are nowhere close to sustainable. Been like this in Japan for a while so we’re beginning to see their population shrink as you mentioned. It’s important to look at how Japan is gonna be affected by this and how Japan responds because this is a problem that the overwhelming majority of developed nations will be facing in the coming decades. Virtually the opposite is happening in Africa where the population continues booming as the continent industrializes

Yup because it’s only the ones who immigrate who have a bunch of kids. Every subsequent generation has less kids. So the immigrant generation could have 5 kids for example but each one of those kids will likely have maybe 3 kids of their own and then the next generation only 1-2. Japan has tried bringing in plenty of young, high skilled immigrants to do something about the birth rate but it hasn’t had the effect they’ve been looking for

There are no politics for families.

cherry68 - Interesting report on the declining Japanese birthrate here: Well, that's what happens here too. Consider Italian average age for mothers at first childbirth is 32.4 yo. The lack of free time to stay with children for a working mother is another factor. That's why my neighbor and I, both graduated engineers, left our jobs after having children.

So does anyone think all of this is to curb population shrinkage? No, I think it's to control women. I'll take it one step further: It's to control women, gays, minorities, et al. by systematically stripping them of all of their rights. Unfortunately it's been made fairly easy for conservatives to achieve this since many of these rights are tenuously held in case law and not codified into legislation as they should be.

Anything that is unpopular with conservative Christians is potentially on the chopping block. Americans are so blasé about their rights… it’s time to wake up.

Well, it appears that the 18 yr old cited this reason in the Buffalo mass shooting.

Considering abortion rates are way higher among black and Hispanic women, a white supremacist should encourage abortions.
