I used to think Burstyn got robbed but as more time passes the more I think Roberts totally deserved it. It's a difficult role to pull off while Burstyn is very one note.

Neither really holds a candle to Bjork for Dancer in the Dark, but between the two of them I think Roberts' performance feels more...complete/category-appropriate? I don't think it's great performance but she nails the right moments and de-glamorizes herself to an extent that doesn't feel like she's pandering.

I don't really care for either (and 2000 was a really strong year for Lead Actress performances if you ignore what the Academy was dishing out), but Burstyn edges out Roberts for me.

GILLIAN ANDERSON / THE HOUSE OF MIRTH Out these 2 : Burstyn . One of the most mindblowing and haunting performances of all time . Roberts was incredible too , though . EB is still her best performance to date .

Bjork!!
Of the two, Julia for sure. It's a great performance overall, and that scene in the car, when she's being told over the phone that she's missed her daughters first word, is just beautiful stuff from Roberts.

What a great year..... the quality of this year cannot be stated any more. Rose Byrne for The Goddess of 1967 doesn't even make my lineup anymore, and she was my win at one point. That's how strong this year is. Gillian Anderson is probably my win......or at least in top 2 or 3. Laura Linney the performance that made Laura Linney..... or at least the first glimpse of who she became. Cate Blanchett (The Gift) imo her best performance next to Blue Jasmine. Maggie Cheung as striking as usual. And finally.... it's.... Julia, the perfect signature of her career, movie star Julia + Julia the professional actress.... and.. it was the perfect combo role for her. All of those are my win in 2001, 2009, 2010, 2017. Maybe 2006, 2011, 2012, and 2015 too.

Burstyn is my choice - she'd make my lineup if the Oscars were only once a decade - but Linney and Roberts were statuette-worthy (and of course the un-nominated Björk), too, so really, the 2000 lead actresses are the gift that keeps giving.

Roberts. They're close, but I give Julia the edge 'cause I feel it's a more complete performance, as Burstyn is a bit one-note.

Roberts easily. Burstyn's is a stunt and a shallow role.
