And can I just say that it's so refreshing to have a thread on this board celebrating Streep's talent and accomplishments rather than bashing her for her success? Merci beaucoup, HELENA MARIA !

And can I just say that it's so refreshing to have a thread on this board celebrating Streep's talent and accomplishments rather than bashing her for her success? Merci beaucoup, HELENA MARIA ! Well , there are some people who were/are still angry with her because they are convinced that she was aware of Weinstein's crimes but didn't do anything about it .
She's one of the greatest(if not THE greatest) and most influential actresses of her generation , there's no doubt about that but I also believe there a few Oscar nods that she didn't really deserve . That's the problem with being the world’s most celebrated actress . The awards show voting committees and show producers are over-eager to have her at the ceremony and pile on ever more nominations that would be better given to some other actresses who more worthy of a nomination than her . That being said , there were also a few instances in which she gave terrific performances but was completely ignored by the Academy .

The Deer Hunter is her only win-worthy performance I've seen thus far.

Sophie's Choice and A Cry in the Dark. She's super talented, but she needs a strong director to reign her in sometimes- she has a tendency to flail otherwise. And sadly, she doesn't have any truly great films on her resume.
