"I hate superheroes. It’s bullshitt. Come on, grow up! We’re not going to be teenagers for the rest of our lives."
"It’s great to dream of great powers. Superheroes are all about power. That’s what I don’t like about superheroes. They’ve gotta beat the other powerful superheroes. Come on, a bit of peace, love, and understanding is what we need."

I can agree with the second quote, but find the first one pretty ironic given who it's coming from.

GASP!
I swear some filmmakers sound more and more like the 13 year olds on twitter everyone complains about.

I thought "big name arthouse filmmaker trashes superhero films" stopped being news in 2013.

As Film Socialism says, his views aren't anything original, but it's not necessarily wrong. Plenty of people here shares the same views he has... and I agree to an extent.
There's gonna be many "cinema is dead" chanters in any decade from the old school filmmmaking club. From Godard, to Gilliam... maybe Scorsese and Scott? Though maybe S+S are a bit less direct and don't mean it that plain and simple, exactly.
Personally though, while they're all hanging on the 50s-70s.... I happen to think 1994-2003 is a cinematic peak we'll never have again. But that's just my little oyster. See how an opinion works? and differs?

"It’s great to dream of great powers. Superheroes are all about power. That’s what I don’t like about superheroes. They’ve gotta beat the other powerful superheroes. I think the superpower thing is a big element that keeps me from liking these kinds of movies more. Some of it may be finding silly, and also that it seems like if anyone is going to have superpowers it should be the villain. I can really only think of one powered superhero (AKA not Batman) movie that I genuinely like, the first Chris Reeve Superman.

I really liked the Hellboy movies for portaying the heroes as outsiders that are just doing a job. They work in a team with non-powered people (who, admittedly, usually get killed) but the awesomeness of having the power of being impervious to fire is offset by being a big red dude that has to file his horns to look anything like other people. There's a humanity to Hellboy that is lacking in the new Marvelization of superheroes.

It’s okay. He can hate all he wants. The viewing public has already spoken with their dollars, and they love them.
