taking over fotodude for May, since he's busy. New month, new BP poll. You know the drill: the poll is only to make my tallying easier. Since it doesn't let us add more options here, I'll list all the films that received at least one vote last month. If you want to vote for something else, you can: just post your choice below. Otherwise only use the poll function to vote. You can also post below to explain your vote, or if you want to guarantee future bragging rights if you call it early, but only the poll votes will be tallied (with the exception above). I'll keep it open for a few days, then post the results with some comments. In May last year, not much people voted, and only 4 out of the 11 choices actually wounded up with a BP nomination. By the way, why aren't we considering James Gray's Ad Astra, Alfonso CuarĂ³n's Roma or Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born? They seem promising as well.

I'm saying BP but don't think it will win but will score nod.
I think we are underestimating Beautiful Boy.

I'm sticking by Klansman until the Cannes reviews are out.

Going by the response today, I could see BlacKkKlansman going all the way. It definitely has the narrative, not just the political one but being seen as a comeback for Spike Lee would make this the perfect time to reward him.

Not feeling anything yet so I'll just go with BlacKkKlansman.

BlacKkKlansman for now. Also why is anyone voting for The Irishman, isn't it confirmed 2019

I'm sticking with Mary Queen of Scots (who knows why ), but indicating that the BlacKkKlansman trailer has pushed it up my predictions from giving it a 0% chance to making me consider it one of the early favourites.

It'd be funny if it came down to Beale Street + First Man.
Our best actor might be in Cheney, First Man, or Front Runner - could swing them higher into Pic. On the female side there's the similar Mary Queen of Scots & The Favourite. These five are true stories, helps. Something like Roma could be a favorite but it's foreign language and Netflix. Yet....I'll go with If Beale Street Could Talk for now.

Also why is anyone voting for The Irishman, isn't it confirmed 2019 I'd be very surprised if it came in this year considering the enormous scale of the film and all the post work needed. Jane Rosenthal the producer said "2019 without question" last month so there's that but technically no confirmation from Netflix yet.

BlacKkKlansman gets my vote. It's reception is excellent, and it's only May, so anything can change.

Haven't the last few winners come from either Telluride, Toronto or Venice?

Haven't the last few winners come from either Telluride, Toronto or Venice? Yeah, that makes me wary of Klansman now. I didn't expect a Cannes bow, makes me afraid that it'll peak early. And the comedic nature of it (which I didn't consider when looking at the plot outline) makes me shaky too. But still, I'll stick with it for now, and probs turn my back once the fire behind it goes out.

Never paid a great deal of attention to that, I guess. I just assumed it would have a later release when I heard of it.

I predict that half of the poll options will have flopped both critically and commercially, 1/4 of these will be critical hits ruined by awful campaign, only 1/4 will be BP nominees, and none of them will win.
