Inspired mostly by Felicity Jones being cast as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There's definitely a resemblance... I can't think of another actor who would be better, physically speaking: I just hope she's improved her American accent since its last outing... It was pretty terrible. What are some other examples? Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln ( Lincoln) Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon ( Nixon) David Oyelowo and Carmen Ejogo as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King ( Selma) Help me name some more?

Not sure he's exactly an American icon, but Gary Oldman played Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK.

Ken Bran played FDR in Warm Springs, if you remember! Toby Jones as Truman Capote in that stupid fucking movie. A couple of the Dylan's in I'm Not There were Brits too! Stephen Graham in Boardwalk Empire (and Public Enemies!)

mhynson27 - Garfield is as American as hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and apple pie! Same goes for Olivia de Havilland, Rebecca Hall, and Sienna Miller. stabcaesar - Irish... Therefore, not British. ibbi - There are so many examples! Americans really don't seem to care. I can only think of a few off the top of my head for the inverse... Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher ( The Iron Lady) and Emmeline Pankhurst ( Suffragette), Renée Zellweger as Beatrix Potter ( Miss Potter), and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill ( The Crown).

I don't really mind. Even thought I consider myself to be a fluent english speaker, my hearing can't really detect phony accents, so there's not really reason for me not to buy someone as a certain nationality. But I sort of understand the brits/yankees who hate this, since I loathe how they cast spanish Javier Bardem as a brazilian.

Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams ( I Saw the Light) Hiddleston also appeared as F. Scott Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris. bob-coppola - I don't really mind, either. I really love many of the performances that have been mentioned in this thread.
