Amanda Wingfield? Marquise de Merteuil? Titania? Mary Tyrone? Arkadina? Clytemnestra? Her gifts are so underused these days. A bona fide movie star with no movies...

Maybe not "classi"c per say but I've always wanted Angela to play either Nefertiti or Cleopatra.

Basset has already played Lady Macbeth in a 1998 Off-Broadway production..
She was giving an interview a few years ago, and just went right into one of Lady Macbeth's monologues;

Wonderful actress. Criminally underused, as you said. I'd love to see her playing one of those strong female protagonists of Toni Morrison's novels, like Pilate from Song of Solomon or Sethe from Beloved.
Also, it would be interesting to see her playing a role like Martha in an adaptation of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf'. Yes, she can be loud... This scene of 'Waiting to Exhale' gets me every time.

I always thought you could do a complete update of Sweet Bird Of Youth - which almost seems quaint and somewhat creaky now in some parts - and play with its themes for sexuality, money, age and gender issues, race and cultural mores - but that would be revamping a classic, but if you look at the text of the play there's room for a re-write and she could fit fairly perfectly in it as Alexandra.
