I have really been looking forward to this film since it premiered in Berlin early last year. I ordered my DVD copy from France - it came last week, and I was finally able watch it!
It's slight... Little more than a bonbon... But very, very enjoyable. Paris looks as stunning as ever and Chammah (Huppert's daughter!) and Sorel have a very interesting take on a May-December romance. Élise Girard is often compared to Jim Jarmusch in her native France, but I think her sensibilities align much more closely with Sofia Coppola's. In watching Strange Birds, one can't help but be reminded of Lost in Translation. It's definitely worth a watch if you ever get the chance.
